Laptop not booting up ?? Hi all my son has borrowed my laptop he has just telephoned me to tell me its not working as im here in norway i cant see what the problem is first hand but he says it boots takes ages to boot up waits at the windows screen for ages and then eventually the desktop appears but when you click n the icons nothing happens any ideas will a reformat of the hard drive and total reinstall fix it or is it a hardware fault cheers
had a similar prob to this not so long back after numerous reinstalls it was still painfully crawling along during boot sequence it would take half hour to get to the desktop!! And then like u mention it wouldnt respond when icons were clicked etc.... Diagnosis: Harddrive knackered!! Replaced and all worked fine again.... Cheap as chips too...
i'd try a re-install first - get the recovery disks that came with it. if all else fails, then get a new HD
