hey it wasnt ment to come across as a bite im merley pointing out that you can take the piss as much as you want it just comes across as belated jealousy at the fact you lot never had the best centre forward in the modern game . theres loads of legends down the years who can compete with him, cloughy, mannion, camsell (18 goals in 9 england caps)... and ravanelli had season where he could easily claim to have competed with the best. shearer was a great player and ill always respect what he did for england, esp euro 96. but its only on tyneside that he has this godlike status. the rest of the coutry doesnt share that 'opinion', especially as he aint done much for a couple of seasons. and as for best striker of his generation, and best striker in the modern game.... is this serious? baggio, ronaldo, romario, weah, henry the list goes on. in england, yes, but no further.
I ment in england but if you look at his goals ratio compared to the other names youve mentiond only romario stands up to his record ... and ravenelli wasnt anywhere near as good as shearer he had one great season but did nothing after that and not a lot before it tbf . no legend from boro or sunderland are as good as shearer and yes ok i am biased but anyone form any club would recognise that he tops the list of great players in the north east .
i'd agree with that he has been englands best striker and a damn good one at that, but we havent been blessed with too many good strikers recently. and im not too clued up on sunderlands legends but boro have had some excellent players who were rated very highly so i cant just accept shearer is the best. he's no bernie slaven
oh, and i wasnt saying that any of boro's legends WERE better overall, just that i wouldnt accept that shearer was the best out of the combined lot of NE legends. its all opinions anyway, shearer obviously means more to geordies, just like juninho would to boro fans and kevin ball would to that championship side.
