Labour at 19 year low ...

    http://politics.guardian.co.uk/conservatives/story/0,,1855568,00.html

I wonder what a new tory government is going to be like, which looks increasingly more likely.

Personally i think the conservatives are going to inherit a government in alot of debt, with the economy on the way down and in a very unstable world political climate.

I wonder if people will look back on new labour and wonder what we all got out of it?

I think it's healthy to have a change in the governing party every once in a while, say after three/four terms at most. Keeps them on their toes.

unemployment is at an all time low.
fuel costs have little to do with labour and everything to do with a global rise in fuel (it would be no different under tories).
stealth tax? if you want to understand cast abuse cast your mind back to the torie era.

That figure's got to be a load of shit. The population's about 60mil, and of that the working population is only around the 30 mark, so you're trying to say that 1/6 of the working population is unemployed?

    An unemployment rate of 16.67%?????

I thought official figures were about 1.6 million unemployed. Mind you, the way unemployment figures are calculated changes regularly to keep the figures down. During the 1980s I believe the calculations were changed something like 26 times, with only one of those changes resulting in an increase.

It said in The Economist last week that the unemployment rate was 5.1% for the UK

The reason it is probably lowish is because of all the jobs labour have created which dont need to be there

it's not much of a choice is it.
one bunch of useless wankers or another bunch.

no choice at all on things like foreign policy ( they both want to be america's arse wipers)

trident ( they both want to lash out zillions on a redundant overpriced US controlled missile system)

privatisation ( the both want to sell off whatevers left)

    health service (ditto)

law n order (more prisons, more'toughness', less civil rights)

imigration (turn em away send em back (unless they're white)

the conservatives would be marginally worse cos they are the party of the old and greedy but there is so little in it.
I'm going to vote lib dem just cos I couldn't bring myself to put an X next to a tory:rolleyes:

THE number of people claiming out-of-work benefits in Britain has hit 5.29m, more than three times as many as are officially unemployed, according to an analysis of government statistics obtained by The Business this weekend. The figure exposes for the first time the true extent of welfare dependency in Britain under Chancellor Gordon Brown and paints a picture of a society in deep crisis.

Official figures from the Department of Work and Pensions reveal that the 957,000 people claiming jobseekers’ allowance are joined by 2.7m people on incapacity benefit and 777,000 lone parents deemed not to be in “the field of work”.

    (Quoted from the site above).

2.7 Million people on 'incapacity benefit'   I sure do get value for my 40-50% tax rate that i pay.

What's funny about that? You're fit and working, why shouldn't your tax go to those who aren't and can't.

LOL - im sure if you met some of the people 'off on the sick' you'd change your opinions.

2.7 million people with genuine reasons for being paid to sit at home? .... If thats the case then why has the government department responsible for it been told to reduce this number by a million over 10 years?

Perhaps its because there are hundreds of thousands of people TAKING THE PISS.

Do you know anyone who is off on the sick? Or are your views compiled from Daily Mail cuttings and Keith off Eastenders?

Can you be on incapacity benefit whilst still employed? For example if a fireman tore ligaments and would be unable to work for 6 months he could be on incapacity benefit before returning to his position once recovered?

Maybe a stupid question but would be interested to know.

I think it'd be the employer's responsibility rather than the govt's.
