    Knackered back!!!!

As if i havent got enough pain already, i put my back out clearing the dog run last night and i nearly dropped to the floor. I never realised that it hurt so much!!! Even tho i'd had me daily ration up to that point of opiates etc it still knacked.

Anybody got any ideas how best to manage this? I woke up this am and took me 20 minutes to get out of bed!!! I'm hobbling about the house with a walking stick!! HELP PLEASE

base of the back? either side? it's probably sciatica

i get this quite frequently - last year i couldn't get out of bed for 2 days, eventually i had to inch my way along the floor to the bathroom or there was going to be an accident. it was 2 weeks before i was able to go back to work and all i did was twist a little bit funny. To say it's only an inflammed nerve, you'd think it's much much worse cause of the amount of pain - i thought i had broke my back.

There's nowt u can do - rest for today but tomorrow you've got to get on your feet and keep moving - it's the only way to get rid of it.

i usually get some anti inflamatories (sp?) - Naproxen i think on pescription but i had the same problem, no amount of pain killers even made a dent in the pain

Thats exactly what it feels like phil, thought i'd snapped me back!! Aye its the right hand side lower back. So thats the nerves on the other side shot now then?! Chronic pain on the left from op and now acute pain on the right from sciatica!!!

    Bollox.

(cheers for the info tho bud :D )

it's awful - every time i rolled over or moved in bed it was like a bolt of lightning up my back - all for a trapped / imflammed nerve!!

my worst took 2 weeks of recovery before i could walk standing up properly or without a funny limp - but i've always got to be careful - the slightest thing sets mine off!

the pain is sort of in the arse cheek to the base of the spine - defo sounds like siactica

yes - those pain killers - i had 4 different types, the last ones, small tiny jobbies proper had me on another planet - but i STILL couldn't friggin walk.

However, i bit of the other would often aleviate the symptoms ;)

I had this last year , only seemed to come on during the night tho and wake me up with unbelievable pain and wouldnt go away till id been up and about for a few hours and any amount of anti inflammatries and pain killers wouldnt budge it.

Bearing in mind i already had a posturapedic mattress i got shot of it for a memory foam mattress and havent had a single bit of bother since !!

Hope your back sort's itself out soon mate. I put my back out last month walking home from work and you're right, I've never felt pain like it either. It felt like my back was about to snap everytime I tried to straighten up too.

Phil's right. The only thing you can do is rest today, but make sure you get up and about tomorrow.

And if you get up in the morning and all feels fine, don't let it put you under a false sense of security and still take it easy. I woke up one morning thinking it was fine (only 'cos it took me less than 10mins to sit up), but after an hour of being out of bed I was bent double again.

Cheers Granty. I'm startin to walk about a bit without the stick now. think the pain killers are takin the edge off but its still rather uncomfortable.

Once this happens you are supposed to be prone to it for the rest of your life .. its happened to me and all i did was step down a step on my way to work .. this was a few year ago now but it can come and go , i did it the other week just bending the wrong way to pick a towel up .

I was told by the doc / specialist lying face down on the floor and pushing your groin down and then push your upper body up with your hands .. as if your doing a press up but keep your groin pushed down .. take your time though and this should ease it a bit .. its best to try and keep mobile instead of just lying / sitting around .

Your all right though it HURTS .

me and my brother used to get sciatica once or twice a year quite badly, my mam paid for us both to get acupuncture a couple of years ago and neither of us have had it since, there's a chinese place on whitley road in whitley bay that does it for about 20 quid a session, its a bit steep, but its about the same as a chiropractor (can't spell).
