Do they actually bother asking 'lone parents or same sex households' what they think, or do they just wade straight in? Rather like the banning of "Christmas" in some areas so as not to offend people of other religions, when the vast majority of them weren't offended in the first place!

Sure, show a bit of sensitivity, but an outright ban is ridiculous.

i think with most of these types of 'PC outrages' it's usually they just wade in, looking for the slightest opportunity that someone might possibly get offended. it's total over kill

these stories are in the daily torygraph. This is not the organ to trust on political correctness stories.

why are kids doing fathers day cards in school in the first place? it is just an invention of the US greeting card industry to push more product. If you were the teacher in the class what would you say? 'ok kids, for those of you with a dad make a card, the rest of you sit and pick your noses until they finish. It's bollox like most of these stories. the 'banning of christmas' one being a case in point.

The council were running a festival from november to january with a whole range of events in the city and they called it "Winterval". Newcastle ran a similar one last year. The papers picked this up and a story was published saying the council were using the word winterval to replace the word christmas. This was then picked up by the Torygraph and they said it was being done to protect the sensitivities of "other religions" ie (by implication) muslims. This was just another little push along the route of xenophobic paranoia the Telegraph, mail and express are pushing.
don't believe what you read in these rags

I occasionally buy the International Express and International Telegraph in Australia, and I'm pretty sure this will be front page news next week. It is basically just one big whige about the state of the country front to back, then full of letters in the international correspondance section from Brits abroad saying how much they hate the UK. Whighing poms eh.

PC is ridiculous. At work (car insurance) you have to use 'Yellow' as phonetically for Y rather than 'Yankee' .... ???? Is Yankee offensive????

Enforcing PC shite more often than not, ends up causing more offence then there was to begin with.

    don't know. It might be

In English-speaking countries outside the United States, especially in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Yankee, almost universally shortened to Yank, is used as a derogatory, playful or referential colloquial term for the U.S. citizens.
In certain Commonwealth countries, notably the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, "Yank" has been in common use since at least World War II, when thousands of Americans were stationed in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Depending on the country, "Yankee" may be considered mildly derogatory.
The term has evolved, through the use of Cockney Rhyming Slang, to the word "Septic Tank", or just "Septic". This slang form is heard in Australia, as well.[16] (Yankee - Yank - Septic Tank - Septic - Seppo) in Australia.[3]
[edit]In other parts of the world
In some parts of the world, particularly in Latin American countries, and in East Asia, yankee or yanqui is used sometimes as an insult politically associated with anti-Americanism and used in expressions such as "Yankee go home" or "we struggle against the yanqui, enemy of mankind" (words from the Sandinista anthem).

these kids will grow up soft with everyone pandering to their needs. what about the majority of kids who have fathers and want to show them they care by making them a fathers day card. are they gonna stop mothers day cards from being made for the kids with no mothers... are they fuck.

Surely it would be bad for business to let kids make there own cards rather than buy them? Maybe the US card industry are behind this ban in scotland?:spangled:

In Australia if you are a 'Wog', you are from Italy, Spain, Croatia or other parts of Southern Europe, and its actually a term of endearment...

I'm not saying that. just that fathers day is not some sort of ancient tradition to be defended at all costs. It was only invented in the sixties.
