JFK Interview ahead of Passion Classics This Saturday..!

Ahead of the forthcoming classics night @ the emporium… Genix decided to ask his CO resident DJ a few questions about what makes these classics nights so famous in clubland!

Hello JFK! Are you looking forward to the next event? Passion Classics……?
Without doubt Passion Classics is one of the highlights of the year, what’s special about this one is that this time I am not choosing the music I just get to build the tunes into a set which will be more challenging but a lot more interesting.

You have been at Passion for many years… you have seen club land go through many fazes.. but how have the classics nights gained such a big reputation at Passion and remained a date in the diary not to be missed by the faithful clubbers?
I think what sets Passion apart from other clubs is that the residents are respected and loved as much if not more than some of the bigger named DJs, we seem to connect on the same level, Passion has always been about having a great party and I think the residents deliver that.

The idea of the clubbers choosing the music is a fresh idea… do you think this will improve the night as the clubbers will have some input into whats being played? And of coarse may stop the bombardment of requests on the night haha!
Its going to be very interesting To see if the clubbers can pick as good a set as the DJ’s, but I felt it was time to give something back to the Dedicated Followers of Passion and this is our way of saying… go on then be involved.

These classics nights must all be about the party, and celebration of some truly amazing tracks that have been released over the years…. I guess there is maybe a different format/vibe to the normal clubbing nights?
Well yea we kinda say.. lets go for it from the start, there are so many good tracks to fit in why fill things out with boring stuff… we just well…. Go for it… its always been the Passion way.

What do you think pulls people from all over the UK to these nights?
Well almost all clubbers have been or know of someone that’s been and our reputation sells itself, people want to actually find out for themselves what all the fuss is about, in my opinion there is no club in the world where you can stand anywhere in one room and still feel part of it… the atmosphere is electric.

What can Passion expect from JFK on the 5th July?
I know deep down that these nights can’t last forever, so I am going to enjoy it for every last second, and when I enjoy myself everyone knows about it.. it gonna be awesome!

Do you think these classics nights will ever go out of date? Or are the timeless with all of the ‘new classics’ being made?
Well I have been doing classics nights since we started almost 15 years ago, every year the classics list has changed, back in 1995 we were playing late 1980’s-early 90’s stuff, in 1999 we were playing stuff from 1990 to 1995 and now we have 15 years to choose from, the key to playing classics well is playing massive older tunes that are still relevant today, it’s no good playing the coolest underground cult remix if no one know what the fuck it is… it’s all about pleasing your audience and I think I am one of the best in the industry at delivering this when it matters on these nights, so the answer about will they ever go out of date is irrelevant, there will always be classics nights as long as there are current nights, the future cannot proceed without a nod to the past.

What is your personal favourite dance classic?
You would have to ask me that every five years as each era is different, but tracks that means a lot to me in defining an era are
1.Alison limerick, Where love loves. The First ever track I played at Passion (She later sang it live at Passion on my birthday and I got very emotional)
2.System F. Out Of the Blue. To me this was the start of trance and Passions golden era, Ferry has just recently remixed it and played it at Passion, (I got very emotional again)

Which Classic has got the best reaction from the crowd over the years?
Well I have just thought for 15 minutes staring at my Pc and I honestly cannot answer that question!
You would need to ask me every year.. and we aint got that long!

Thanks JFK!!!! We look forward to your set on the 5th July
