Glasgow's finest genre bending DJ Twitch of OPTIMO (Sub Club) One of our favorite DJ’s, club promoters & music lovers heads to to Newcastle - join us for one hell of a party As one half of Optimo (along side partner in crime Wilkes) Twitch has been a pivotal figure in the reshaping of British club culture, where his visceral passion and adventurous spirit has both coaxed and contributed to a broadening of the constricts (and recognized notions) of what is considered great dance music. We love what Twitch and Wilkes do and have been making the trip up to Glasgow for years.... The duos weekly Sunday residency at Glasgows Sub Club has become the stuff of legend, a music lovers paradise. Crossing boundarys and pushing life changing music (both new and old) with a skill, passion, love and obsession all too often missing in contemporary club culture. Over the years they have been responsible for turning many people onto such delights as the Punk Funk / 99 records sound - prior to the mass re interest in the likes of ESG and Liquid Liquid - Twitch and Wilkes named their night after the track ‘Optimo’ by Liquid Liquid. Another early 80’s (one time seemingly lost) mindfuck that Optimo draw peoples attention to is the No Wave, Ze Records, Mutant Disco era. With the current vogue for all things D I S C O, Optimo's twisted take on left field disco is as essential and relevant as ever. However it’s not just early 80’s New York loft music that the duo obsess over, these guys are as at home with the Rock n Roll thrills of The Gun Club and The Cramps as they are with House, Techno, Electro, Disco, Funk, Synth Pop, Industrial, EBM, 6T’s Garage, Psychedelia, Noise, Dub, Reggae or any other genre that most DJ’s prefer to segregate and ghettoize. Optimo are also renowned for their off beat one off special theme partys like the Espacio Now night (Apocalypse Now theme - crowd dressed in Nam get up, club decked out like a jungle with camo gear and war sound effects running through the music throughout the night) and the Espacio Odyssey night where they ran with a 2001 Space Odyssey theme that well and truly put the Cosmic into Disco. Twitch has turned in some mindblowing remixes for a range of incredible and cutting edge artists like.. Franz Ferdinand, Pharoahe Monch, Florence & The machine, The Presets, Love Is All, Colder, Peter Bjorn & John, Dave P & Adam Sparkles, Liquid Liquid, Little Barrie, The Shortwave Set, Khaos, Prinzhorn Dance School, Panico, Allez Allez, Pepe Deluxe, The Glimmers, Wolfmother, Tussle, The Gossip, Sons & Daughters, James White & The Blacks, Steve Poindexter and many many more. We brought Twitch to Newcastle last year for a rare Newcastle appearance, at which he smashed the joint, loving it so much, he's back for more.... Once again we are absolutely buzzing to have Twitch down to DRAGNET / theCUT for a night that promises to be well and truly one to remember.
