my brother inlaw offered me a 1000 quid bet that sunderland would finsih higher than newcastle if they both were in the premiership next season , ( this was about 7 weeks ago...oh how i wish i had taken that bet).

Why? It's not like you are in a great position for next season. All the players you've bought like Leon Best etc will need replacing next year with better squad players as they aren't premiership class.

You'll need to spend alot of money and whilst you'll have the windfall of the TV money i'm pretty sure that will be going to pay off the lone Mike Ashley gave the club in December to keep you out of Administration.

Granted Sunderland are in a poor position but life won't be so rosey for yourselves next year either. You won't bounce back up and suddenly be back to being a team in relative premiership comfort zone like you were a few years back. You'll be battling to beat relegation again alongside about 8 other clubs.

Yeah if we stay up and yous come up its pretty unknown as to how we will both do.Will Ashley spend? Is Hughton good enough for premiership managment? Can you attract the type of players you need?

Nah I still like him and think he will come good aslong as we keep him.I wouldnt even sack him if we do go down. Most the players hes bought are playing well for us, its the ones he inherited which dont seem to be doing it so he needs time to build his own team.Rome wasnt built in a day

Agree 100% with that. Look at the players he has brought in last summer -

    Bent
    Cana
    Da Silva
    Cattermole
    Turner
    Campbell
    Mensah

For me theres only Campbell who has only really disappointed, and while the jury is still out on his January signings i have already been really impressed with what i have seen of Hutton too.

He inherited a squad that had the premiership season been a month longer last year we would have probably gone down. This year he worked wonders for the first 3 months though when we were hit hard by injuries and suspensions to most of our full strength 11 the players heads dropped and we havent managed to pull it back yet despite having the talent in the squad to do so.

If we beat Bolton on tuesday i hope its going to be the lift we need to pull us out of the rut and we can start again looking at catching the teams ahead of us rather than over our shoulder.

If we dont though then you do struggle to see when this run is going to end...
