i've applied for lots, but i'm not hearing much back.

I'd rather apply to companies direct but the recruitment agencies don't list who the job is for (obviously!) so i'm drawing blanks

Worst recruiter award goes to NRG though!

    What are your qualifications in?

I've just got a job with BT as a network consultant and they have a decent referral scheme - if you're what they're after and you have a little experience I might be able to put in a good word

I've got a degree in network computing, done all the CCNA training although i've not got the actual CCNA qualification, and essentially 2 years professional experience in a systems/network admin role from my placement year, and then the same company asked me to work part time during my final year. Got a really broad range of IT skills

Networking is what I want to go into really!

    A good word would be...well, good :p

Not really, there's tons of networking firms up here plus government departments, there's large datacentres and IT infrastructure up and down the region (DWP at durham house in washington for example, BT in newcastle as another), there's loads of companies doing well.

Only problem (as I've found out first hand) is that most of them are prepared to give you a foothold unless you have an BSc, CCNA, CCNP, MSCE, and every other computing qualification ever plus years of experience...

I've just been lucky enough to get a foot through the door.

I think theres just a lack of professional jobs up here full stop. I've really struggled to find a languages job, thats why I'm moving to London. So many opportunities down there

There might be infrastructure related jobs .... but they are more support based than anything else.

Of course people need IT jobs in most cities - but they are few and far between oop norf.

Congrats to anyone who gets em mind - i wouldnt mind doing a contract up north if one ever came available!

EDS have swarms of people all over the north east making good coin. Also I remember when I worked in IT, BT Syntegra now BT Global Services had loads of open days offering good coin.

This is all fact as I know people who make the £££'s.

Of course due to masses of people being qualified in IT the help desk bod is now on par with contact centre bod ££££'s wise.

Of course there are going to be more jobs in the capital AKA the worlds capital:p

    Well still having shit luck!

I'm quite stunned at the lengths companies go to to fill even the most basic I.T. positions...it's bureaucracy gone mad.

Really makes me question my 4 year university investment put it that way!

Going through agencies isn't really a good idea like.

Did you turndown a job because 'it was too basic'?

    if so, schoolboy error

Laz just got a bit of a spiffing job that way, it took a good few months mind, but he even got to negogiate for a few more quid - he hesitated for about 2 seconds on the phone, the agency thought he was wavering and BOSH - they offered him more coin  awesome!

admittedly, it's down 'boro - but there's "loads a' gash leek" so he tells me
