Is 'Vocal Trance' Bad for the scene?

    *flame retardant suit on*

Maybe its just me getting old (probably is), but it feels like the whole "trance song" thing aint doing the genre any favours. Stuff like "pop trance" devaluing the more underground stuff in peoples eyes on one hand. And within the whole scene itself theres so many cookie cutter tunes like "holding onto nothing" coming and going one after another.

Samples and the off bit of vocal stuff is quite good - but making it the entire focus of the tune - is this wrong?

Vocal trance = Musical Equivalent of a donner kebab?

Whats your thoughts? - SPEAK YOUR BRAINS!

Vocal trance done well can be amazing (Way Out West - Mindcircus), done badly it is well and truly offensive (Most things that litter the top40 week in week out)

i think vocal trance is great, but when twats do radio edits of tune which has the vocal going all the way thru the song it sounds a load of shite and cheesy  i cringe everytime i hear the oceanlab- satellite on the radio because of it :(

old age son. I'm the same - i used to love vocal trance - but now it's starting to sound all 'kelly lorena' or whatever she's called. Making it the main focus of the song seems wrong... at most it needs to be 50/50 with a decent hook. But what seems to work best recently is a lush trance track with a few select vocals at key times to lift it.

4 verses and 8 repeats of the chorus just make it sound 'Galaxy FM'!!

A full set of vocal tunes a big no but the odd decent vocal tune in a set always sounds sweet.

Never have been a vocal fan. But put a litle vocal in a trance tune and it is still good. Such as Jurgen Vries - Take My Hand brillaint tune put the vocals have ruined the poor thing:mad: Still I will be buying it this week:p

its the cheap production line shite in the charts that spoils it, since most people who arnt into the scene see that as 'Trance'

i think theres a fine line between good and bad vocal trance though.

i wouldnt say "satellite", "holding onto nothing", "as the rush comes" were cheap productions by any means... they just attract the wrong crowd maybe....

and rammed down your throat night and day for atleast a year from when it first surfaces in a club to it limping to number 3 or 4 in the 'pop' charts.

vocal trance if its dun rite is the bestest thing in the whole wide world, the shite thats inthe charts is hardly "vocal trance", its jsut cheesy dance shit with a crap vocal over the top but "propa" vocal trance is excellent when incorporated into sets in the rite places and not too much....
personally particular vocal trance tunes sumtimes make trance nites what they are cos everyone always remembers when a certain tune with the "sing-a-long" factor gets played during a nite out and as cheesy as it may be its always dead luvli to have those hands in the air sing-a-long luvved up moments when a class vocal trance tune gets played!!!
so in answer to the original question, there aint a chance its bad for the scene, just makes it betta IMO although it has to be dun rite!! and the tunes hav to be v.carefully selected but a lot of the shit these days doesnt even deserve to be called vocal trance IMO... xxx

Exactly, although vocal prog-trance is better than vocal trance altogether.
Every so often the vocal trance argument comes up for the simple reason that there aint been a good vocal trance tune for a while and then a few good vocal tunes come along at once.

i agree that he's a talented proucer and i like 'darren tate' productions, but when he produces under 'jurgen vries' he tends to make cheese, which i dont like!!!

it does what it has to, radio plays etc and it gets people buying it!!!, but imo i like good music and sadly alot of it just aint!!! ;)

    Naaa vocal trance is awesome.

But there is a load of shite that wrongly (probably?) gets labelled as vocal trance in the charts.........thats when it gets spoiled usually...cos it gets HAMMERED and u get sick to death of hearing it.

Done properly, its awesome, "cheesed up" and comemrcialised....tis bad
