Is there anyway to play something HD on my High Definition TV?

I've only just realised that I'm yet to play a film in HD on my new tv.

Is there anyway I can play one if I manage to get hold of a high definition media rip? I've got a chipped xbox with a high definition cable that can play avi/other media files that I burn to DVD and play through a media player.

    Can it be done?

Also where can I get some?

You can get HD rips for the likes of prison break and Lost.. Search for an episode I think they're about 700-800mb each. Burning to disk should be straight forward i'd imagine.

You need to get a raw ts or mkv file.. hook your pc up and try it that way.

    Or..

Buy an upscaling DVD player.. there is a decent one in T3 this month goin for £80..
It'll upscale all your DVDs to HD  :D

Standard DVDs are fairly high quality anyway but the DVD players didn't upscale as much.

It simply outputs the imgae with (I think) 1080 lines instead of the standard 596 (ish) lines..

Makes the image sharper.. tbh.. I don't know a great deal about it.. just want one

they arent the HD copies, they are ripped from HD tv and compressed. The full quality rips are about 4gb or something, they are rare but its possible to find them.

Ive seen a few films around too, return of the king is one i saw but didnt fancy the 16gb download!

Aldi have an upscaling DVD player for £40- it's spot on too- plays loads of file types etc and uses a decent chipset (vadis 888). It's got HDMI and comes with a free hdmi cable

Just to point out that obviously an upscaling DVD player won't make your DVDs more detailed - it will make the picture look more solid though.

Stick to downloaded hi-def stuff for that
