Of course it is! Accents change gradually over time, particularly when you change environment.

Course your accent can change over time. It can change slightly when you are with people who have an accent.

People never think Im from around here they guess at all sorts! Its just everyone personal way of speaking.

of course it is...depends on how strong the accent was to start with...

my mam's a mackem but now sounds more county durham with the odd mackem word...

i sound sound durham with a bit of geordie & the odd mckem word

my mate in hernando beach (florida) lived in england til he was 7 then moved to barbados & has lived in florida since he was 15...it's a strange mix to say the least

i think it's different for everyone. Mine changes very easily. Went to Uni, very broad yorkshire; after uni, slightly midlands twang to it; now - hardly any yorkshire left, just the occasional word, mainly weak geordie. :(

Haha I know loads of people with mutating accents. It's mostly people I know from the match who haven't lived up here for years but are still convinced they have a broad Geordie accent. Most of them have a hell of a 'twang' that they don't notice but everyone else does.

Some peoples' accents just don't seem to change though.. like my sister's boyfriend's parents are from Birmingham (unlucky) but have lived up here for over 25 years.. They still have the strongest brummie accent and in fact my sister's bf and his brother both have a hint of brummie to their accent despite only having been there a handful of times.
