    Is it illegal to sell...

Old copies of Windows on E-bay...

Say old unused originals, with OEM, that used to belong to an ex employer that somehow happened to ahem, fall into ones box whilst clearing ones desk etc...

It's only versions 95 and 98 mind...how much would they go for...

    Suppose there's a real slim chance that...there's someone out there...after a copy to...build a 486?? Training purposes perhaps...:(

actually, having a look whats for sale at the mo, looks like there might be some eBay policy about OEM software having to be supplied with hardware. There's some that say that and some that don't. It's worth a shot - if they collar you about it - plead ignorance! Or sell it with any piece of hardware - i.e. fooked network cards robbed from work.

I dunno about the legallity of selling oem windows (but if I had to bet i'd say it breaks the t&cs of microsoft) but can you not openly anounce that you are going to sell some stolen software please.

Selling anyone win 9x should be illegal due to it's wankness.

    Just to recap...

DON'T GO ON ABOUT SELLING STOLEN STUFF AGAIN OR I'LL BAN YOU.

    Alright.

I'm surprised by how many firms I see are still using 95 though, especially Gov ones

I'm not, big firms are notoriously backward about IT.

The company my GF works for is one of the largest law firms in the UK but they still got taken down by the last round of virusus.

I got her to ask the IT boss what happened to their firewall and he said they hadn't got it setup yet. (this was late 2003 ffs)

    I rest my case.

    Point taken Rob.

Mine weren't stolen, they were given by the company for use on computers at home.

    Naughty Vandenburg.

Most banks and schools still use 98

Most schools use a rediculously expensive and out of date piece of software made by RM.

Most are too scared to change, our school is thankfully upgrading to XP at the min

Re: Is it illegal to sell...

I used to work building PCs. OEM copies of Windows are definitely strictly for sale with PCs. The company got a total bollocking for selling old copies of Windows 95 when 98 came out.

It would hardly matter for the odd one or two sold by a private individual though.
