    Pipex.

All the rest will tie you down to a 12 month contract.

Not Freeserve or NTL, def not AOL.

I've got a backup Virgin account (for when my monthly NTL account) decides to stop working - connections are good and doesn't keep bouncing you off like so many do

    totally disagree.

In nearly 5 years of BT as my ISP, I can honestly say that I have never had any problems, and they are always very helpful.

Occasionally the servers would be full when I was on dial up, but since I have had broadband, I have never been cut of or not been able to get on.

I had a small hardware failure with the modem, so they sent me a new modem, and gave us a month free for the invonvenience.

Thats cracking customer service if you ask me.

As for pay as u go....what service can be truely "better" than another, they are all gonna be very slow!

    Just get freeserve or something.

Why do you think BT is shite Ruth/Si?

I'm really getting annoyed with people slagging off AOL. I had BT Dial-up for about a year and I found it SHIT. I was disconnected after 2 hours ("but that's alright, just reconnect"...not when I was downloading things!! ) and then I was also disconnected regularly. It was also not unusual to not be able to connect due to the servers being too busy. I HATED BT.

So after my 12 month contract was up, I switched to AOL. And I couldn't have asked for better! In the 12 months I was on AOL Dial-up I was probably disconnected about 5 or 6 times, considering I'm online between 6 and 10 hours each day then that's excellent!

They offered a number of numbers to call to dial up, so when one didn't work for some reason or another you just switched to another number to call and one would work. True, you have to keep the AOL browser minimised all the time, but you get used to it and it's not all that bad. If you're an idiot and can't figure out how to make IE your default browser then don't complain about the AOL Browser, you should know better! :p

OK if other people have had bad times with AOL, but I recently switched to AOL Broadband, and am loving it :D Go AOL

The reason I am looking for an alternative is because Virgin who I am currently with seems to be pants at the moment.... It keeps timing out on Ebay, Hotmail and Microsoft websites consistantly and has done for the last 3wks!
