    intel centrino

Are there any whizzkids on here who know much about the Intel Centrino technology?

Is it actually up and running yet?

Can you use it anywhere? Or is it likely to be annoying like mobile phone reception?

I pretty sure they are way faster than a P4 of the same clock speed, I'm sure i've read that Intel will eventually ditch P4 and use the pent M for desktops, servers the lot.

BAck on topic, my parents have got a wireless network at home, it's just quite nice to be able to use a laptop anywhere in the house (or garden).

The only thing a centrino "is" - is a laptop pc that uses a pentium M processor, wireless lan and intels chipset.

They arent different processors, just a word to describe a laptop that offers a certain combination of hardware - which to the average consumer offers them the piece of mind that their pc conforms to the latest standards (as intel define them)

    your right about intel

if you think there will be cpu speeds of 5ghz next year, you can forget it. Rather than speed, Intel and IBM etc are concentrating more on performance. Making things smaller and give off less heat.

Centrino is just the processor isnt it? My mate has centrino, but you still need a seperate wireless card.

It's just alot more efficnent and lasts loads longer.

I read that the point of it is to allow ultimate mobility, as it uses less battery.....but you still need wireless card etc etc :)

lol i did read it, but now i see what you meant!

Seems strange though that you don't see Pentium M on the stickers that they put on the laptop, thats why I assumed it was a processor :)
