I couldn't help noticing the following letter from one J. Cohen, London N3:

"Your cartoon (Metro, Mon) implies that Israel is not doing anything to reduce civilian casualties, ye this is far from the truth. Israel makes phone calls to residents advising residents to leave areas where Hamas has stored weapons, at the risk of losing the element of surprise. Hamas, on the other hand, deliberately hides weapons in civilian areas, fires rockets from densely populated civilian areas and then screams 'massacre' if any casualties result'.

Well Cohen is the Jewish version of Smith, ie, loads of the fuckers, so who knows if its him, but it wouldn't surprise me.

To be fair to him he is right,, take a look at the videos on the net shot from Israeli UAV's it shows Hamas fighters firing mortars from a UN school,, and rocket launchers hid between houses!!

It's a bit like showing some terrible footage of the Ku Klux Klan and the Muslims saying "Westerners are mentals!".

i don't really know any muslims, but i do think that we have a biased view, given that the only time we hear of islam in the media is when something's been blown up.

to be honest i've not kept up with the israel and gaza situation over the last few days so i'm not really in a position to comment. although i have been trying to organise some travelling to israel/west bank/jordan...

yeah allie, even i caught myself saying "those stupid muslims" a long time ago before i realised what i had just said! they do take a big stage on our tellys for all the wrong reasons. i feel really sorry for the normal muslims who are behind the scenes fucking fuming at the guys with the munitions breaking hell.

I thought not, but their actions over the past few weeks make me less sure than I was.

i think israel will be my starting point next time i go travelling, or at least will be included, so it probably won't be this year.

newquay is awesome - you can get some caravan sites that allow all male parties in the massive caravans - we did it years ago - absolute carnage.

the Israelis seem at least as mental as the muslims. they've killed and injured thousands just like they did in Lebanon last time.
What they do have though is a superb PR machine which has been working overtime for the past fortnight.
Anyone would think that the people of Gaza should just roll over and give in in the face of constant land grabs, walls being built which separate them from their land, being unable to leave Gaza, being blockaded and subject to strikes by the Israeli army and air force, having their elected leaders assassinated, their MP's imprisoned without trial and on and on.

All this action will do is create a new generation of young people in Gaza who hate Israel.
It affects young muslims in Europe and the UK as it is yet another example of their brothers being killed and humiliated, and that has knock on effects for homegrown terrorism here.

Everybody suffers for Israel's continued occupation (despite UN resolutions and international law) and will continue to do so till they give up claims and settlements outside the 1967 internationally agreed boundaries.

There all mental bastards, let them get on with it

That's a great article - and I couldn't agree more with it - but what a shame that it appears that you have be Jewish before your criticism of the conduct of the Israelis becomes valid.
