Im in abit of a pickle and need some expert help, or just help will do

Yesterday I downloaded a tune I wanted to put on my personal mp3 player. I uploaded it then realised it wouldn't play it because it wasn't an mp3 or wma but mpg (mpeg audio).

I've tried to change the file extension to either of the 2 as my friend suggested but it didnt want to play and only made it tunename.mp3.mpg, it didn't work.

My friend then suggested I download a converter. There's many of them on the net, all converting mp3/wav wav/mp3 mp3/wma etc, nothing would recognise or convert MPG to mp3 or wma.

Does anybody know how Im suppose to do this, surely this is possible, it has to be.

This isnt the end of my troubles. Because yesterday I downloaded and tried about 10 of these so called converters to see if they would work, I've now gone and messed up my computer. It's finally stopped giving me the kernal errors and crashing everything that I tried to load, but now when I open up a pop up window in Internet explorer to a webpage, it will open the window but display nothing in it, like the window has crashed. Does anybody have any suggestions how to fix this. I really do not want to re-install IE because I did this before and it created more problems than it solved.

I do have Netscrape installed already as a back up browser but IE is the browser I like and just really want to get this pop up window problem sorted, seeing as I use a fair few sites that use them.

    Cheers in advance
