the pc our router is running through is quote 'firewalled to fuck' will this slow the other pc's connected to our network down?

    also...

i can't see the pc in question on our network & i need to transfer files across, is this something to do with the amount of protection in place on said pc, and is there anyway around this so i can transfer files?

Depends on the firewall for the second part of your question. If it's zone alarm, add it to the trusted zone (if it's not already) and make sure security is low.

As for the first part, it's not really clear - all PC's connected to a router are independent of eachother.

What do you mean by "the pc our router is running through"?

Router is a stand alone bit of kit and is "closest" to the internet - the router in it self provides (depending on the router) good security.

    Define firewalled to fuck?

cheers chris - firewalled to fuck is all i got out of my flatmate...

when i say 'the pc that the router is running through' - i mean the computer the router is connected to via its usb...

i turned his pc off earlier cos IE was taking forever to load pages etc. as soon as i did, it started running 10x faster...

    Ah right I see.

Still, you will be connected via ethernet I presume?

The router will be getting it's power from the USB cable I should imagine.

Don't see why it would slow things down though as you will still be independent...

    Hmm!

    Not 100% on that mate

What's the model of the router?

i cant see how it would slow anythign down either to be honest. unless said computer was topping out the download or upload itself. u sure it aint downloading anything when its on?
