    thats class - being able to mod the OS and add homebrew apps gives the hackers lots of opportunities for messing about with the PS3 making it a really popular platform. However, it will mean lots more ripped of games for them - it's a double edged sword

    yeah, i'm running linux on my ps3 now but sony have locked up the graphics quite a bit so not really using it for anything other than mame / snes9x

    It looks like you still need a high end pc to run the pc games but it means you can have yourr pc one place and the ps3 downstairs and still play the pc games...

    Once the modders are on the case, it won't take long for them to open that up

    I read a big post about hoe to modfy the kernel to get more out of it but it was removed by the time i got in from work to have a proper look - not found anyhting since...

    it's like the kernel for the dbox2 - once more and more get on the case, there will be loads of modders re-compiling it - it might take a few years - but it opens up so much scope and flexibility
