How much of a difference do headphones make Ive got a cheap as shit pair of Sony's right now - 20 quid from dixons. I used to have MDR V700's which were ace but since they bit the bullet ive downgraded. So, aside from the volume and isolation from outside sound improvements that expensive headphones have, is there alot of difference in being able to DJ in a non club environment? Im sure there are tons of reasons, but was interested in what other people have to say about this - not having expensive cans right now means ive forgotten more or less ........ If i bought a pair of Senheisers/Pioneers/Sonys tomorrow would i get an immediate sense of technical improvement of having high end cans over cheaper ones or is it just the higher build quality and obvious stuff i would notice? Would beatmatching be easier?
it would be easier to mix i reckon, cos u can hear more. If youve got the cash, just buy a pair, its worth it i think.
Aye, think ill get the HD 25's - Just wondering if i'd notice an actual difference in the short term going back to decent cans.
ive got a lend of my mates 'Ministry of Sound' headphones at the moment, and i can mix fine with them! there only like £20 or summit!
Its mainly the clarity that goes up, which means you can here more details in the mix. And when you do put the volume up they dont distort as much
if u ever DJ in a club u will need good headphones too. cos its fukkin loud, and in alot of places you can hear fukk all!
I would go 4 the HD25's if you can. There light so it dosnt feel like your wearing a brick around your neck and they sound mint. You'll be able to hear each record clearer so in theory you'l b able to mix better. Cant go wrong!
The last Mono (when Alan Belshaw played) I had a lil mix during the day when nobody was there...was the first time I'd mixed on a really loud system and I was surprised at how hard it was to hear the other tune... I have no idea how DJ's manage to mix in places like Foundation!!
you have no chance, it just makes it worse in loud clubs, as the background noise makes it even harder to hear when there are 2 tunes on. You just have to listen for the hi's really. Its not bad once you get used to it.
decent headphones and good monitors make all the difference. you can also feel the music when its loud which makes it a bit easier. just had a search and sennheiser headphones seem to have gone up 20 quid everywhere. got some for 100 quid a few months back but now cant find em for less than 120?!?!
you could really manage with any headphones if you had to, they're nowhere near as important as moniters!
foundation is great cos the moniters are so good it doesn't matter how loud the club is! at vuzz on saturday it was wierd cos only one moniter was working, and it was behind me on the wrong side (i.e the side i have my headphone on!) which meant i had to keep turning my head around cos i was getting all club noise in my right ear
Had my last pair for about 7 years... only bought a fresh pair cos the sound quality was starting to go off...
