Hooked - Christian Smith - Aug 18 - The Other Rooms After hosting the hi-octance presence that is Si Begg we return to more familiar techno grounds in August welcoming one of the leading DJ's on the techno curcuit, Christian Smith. Hailing from Sweden, Christian got the electronic music bug listening to Sven Vath in Frankfurt as a teenager. In 1989 he moved to New York where he witnessed Jeff Mills and Joey Beltram playing at the Limelight. A few years later he began DJing, playing at raves in the Washington area, this is where he first met John Selway forming the production duo that is Smith and Selway. His own label, Tronic, was started in 1994. The fourth release, Goldrush, really started to get the label noticed with support from DJ Sneak, Dave Angel and Carl Cox. Over the years Tronic has hosted releases from Misstress Barbara, Bryan Zentz, Joel Mull, Valentino Kanzyani, Paul Mac, Phil Kieran and of course Smith and Selway as well as 2001's seminal mix CD, Tronic Treatment, mixed on three decks by Christian. Christian has had releases on labels such as In-tec, Yoshitoshi, Primate, as well as remixes on Hooj, Positiva, ffrr. As Smith and Selway, releases have appeared on Rotation, Underwater and Bugged Out to name a few. Back in Europe and currently residing in Barcelona, Christian is in high demand as a DJ the world over. His three deck techique, which incorporates scratching and effortlessly moves between pumping House and tribal Techno has rocked dancefloors in Europe, North America, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, New Zealand and in South America. Christian is currently resident, along with Adam Beyer, Marco Carola and Paco Osuna at Club4 in Barcelona.
