Hercules DJ Console MK2 http://www.hercules.com/showpage.php...86f75dbf3f0796 I want something to make and record my own mixes and basically learn the art of mixing. As far as I can tell this looks perfect and you can get it for like £150! Anyone seen/used this? Opinions? Cheers in advance
They've had good reviews, however I'd say you're best off learning without being behind a computer. Granted, stuff like traktor and ableton is great but I find them cluttered with features and I would be daunted learning on them. If I was starting from scratch (again) I'd pick up a pair of numark cdn22's and a budget mixer and that would only cost me about £40 more than that. I started out on cd decks about the same time one of my mates started using traktor, in 4 years I've got to a point where I can use cds/vinyl/ableton/pcdj, and he's never ventured away from traktor and he hasn't even learned how to mix
Traktor all the way I learnt on decks (Vinyl) and once I got traktor i found it a piece of piss to transfer the skills over. Ideally i would like some decks to link up to it with final scratch or something and maybe an external mixer (which you don't really need to be fair as it has a virtual Allen & Heath Xone 82 anyway) but i can still get good results without them
Cheers for the advice, I can see where you're coming from but there just seem to be too many advantages of the Hercules, another being that it takes up less desk space as I dont think i would really have enough space in my room to set up 2 decks and a mixer where the hercules will just sit nicely alongside my laptop. Another advantage is I can mix between vinyl, mp3 AND cd, i have about 10 vinyl i won in a comp. which would mean that if I wanted to I could just buy 1 basic deck from somewhere and use that to mix into an MP3, meaning that I wouldnt havent to burn MP3s off my laptop onto a blank cd. It just all seems very convenient, and of course you can create effects and loops with it as well which looks cool. Someone on another message board said they learnt to mix off the MK1 and said they recommended it highly and that it was really good. So my overall conclusion is while perhaps ideally I would be using 2 cd decks and a mixer, a combination of factors and advantages of the hercules means that it looks like the best option for me! Plus I've now found it for under £140 off a german website!
