Help pls Right, im doing a presentation about September 11th 2001 - it would be much appreciated if you could tell me your views on HOW THE MEDIA COVERED THE EVENT... Try not to get stuck in what actually happened. Thanks Cass xx
Just looked at what i wrote and i s'pose that it's a bit too fuzzling for a monday afternoon... Do you think they told you everything? Who started it? Why?
like, straight away on the afternoon it happened, they were saying it was iraq and the like b4 they new nething abuot it. i remeber they were showing footage of people celebrating in the streets and i kept wondering if that was infact live footage or not.
Erhh..I think they told us everything but the next person will probs say no they didn't! And then theres gonna be conspiracies probs popping up - well not exactly conspiracies but basically one of those. About how this & that happened etc but government have tried to keep it quiet - wait isn't that a conspiracy. Heck your right it is a Monday!
Has anyone looked at this from a different point of view? I mean we all think it was wrong and it was a shock but has anyone thought about the killers moves? Was it religion that drove them too it?
Terrorist attack - whatever his name is! Why did they do it? To show America & that rest of the world just how powerful they are. I think everyone was shocked for this to happen in America - something like that anyway. Ask me later I'll have woken up then! No I do remember quite alot of talk about how these things aren't supposed to happen in America etc. And when it did everyone crapped themselves because America is supposed to be the most powerful. This being the case how did it still happen? As I said will talk more later - perhaps will make sense hten!:spangled:
What about looking also at why America is so hated in the Islamic world? The people (the innocents that were murdered) did not deserve such a horrific attack but maybe the country did? It could be interesting to look at how the events were reported by Al Gazire (sorry for my spelling) the Islamic satellite news channel. Just a thought.
In a way it removed the Americans sense ov invunerability. It was the first time there has been a major attack on the US mainland since the late 1800's.
Insanity drove them to it. How can any religion condemn those actions? Lets kill innocent people cos we're jealous as fuck and we want to control the world!! Thats all im sayin.
Maybe they should learn how to control thier lands without using fear and violence and others wouldnt have to do it for them?
Rob> Cheers will look at your pointers! Can you see where im coming from though? Im looking at the media coverage ONLY if poss. Everyones got different ideas as to why it happened...so whos telling the truth? Obviously the media has helped you into thinking it was done for this reason or that...but how? Do you belive everything you see in the news?
Why because it fits within what we see as morally acceptable? Who made us judges of the world? I thought that was the job of the UN not the US, my mistake maybe?
Channel4 did a good programme about it just before the 1 year anniversary, called 'In Memorium - 9/11/02', it covered ALL the public and media footaage taken just before, during, and after the event. Seemed to capture the moment and show the real emotions felt by everyone nearby at the time.
This comes down to a combination of two things - religious beliefs of the countries in question, and the foreign policies of the US. What the countries in question find morally acceptable can be completely different to what we and the US find acceptable, the only difference here is that the western world have tried to impose, no, too strong a word, market their beliefs and ideals to these countries, and in some cases aggresively. Israel and Iraq are two good examples of this - while the US say they are going to attack Iraq to remove a dictator, it simply isn't their business to this within the political sense - the underlying reason for this is they would be more comfortable (and richer) to control Iraq's oil assets, therefore bailing out their economy and saving themselves the trouble of having to find alternative methods of transport which would be too costly for the average american who demands access to cars, cheap fuel and low taxes. Also, thanks to their first incursion into Iraqi territory, most of the indigenous population have suffered as a result of poor amenities, most of them destroyed. Israel is the other reason the US are hated in the middle east - by backing a country which has been aggressively occupying a neighboring state in the name of religion, it's no surprise they are going to be the target of an angry and persecuted people. Your thoughts on this?
