    Help Needed!

For some reason my pc has decided it can not find my DVD writer or my DVD drive.

In the device manager I get this message "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

I have tried unplugging them uninstalling and then plugging them in and reinstalling them, new ide cable, swapping the ide port on the motherboard and system restore to before they went off, but still the same message

Any ideas on how to fix this?

maybe, try them in another pc to make sure if there ok, then you know its not them and can move on, pc fuckage is all about narrowing down the search.

How are the jumpers set on the back of these two devices?

Have you got Master/Slave set on either or have you got both on Cable Select?

I never bother with cable select.

Call me old fashioned but it's M/S all the way :D

cable select is from remmys - do it properly - helps u keep track.

disconnect both. set 1 as master. plug in and test it. repeat for the other drive.
