HELP NEEDED: PC problem - Genius Needed

Got a PC problem...

When windows starts (all versions - XP, ME, 98 & 95) it starts to load then just stops/freezes. When I press reset it loads ok the second time. It only seems to be when the PC has been off for a while?!

Tried reinstalling a few times but still does it?

Any Ideas?

have you got 4 operating systems on one pc?! If not, which one have you actually got?

Where exactly in the boot process does it actually stop?

Start - run - msconfig ?

Anyway... Got XP on at the moment. However it happens with other versions.

It seems to happen just b4 windows is to start (after loading config/autoexec )

Tried formatting and reinstalling a few times but no joy.

If u restart its fine but like i say... it happpens when u first start after its been off 4 a while?

your ram could be a bit broken, or your hard disk?

It could even be your graphics card, weve had this problem quite a few times at work !

Until you try other hard disks, graphics cards, RAM etc you aint going to know !

Rebuild/Reseat all your cards... if it still happens some hardwares fucked.

Snarf> Reseat the memory & Graphics cards. (Take em out and replace em firmly).

Then format your Hard drive and reinstall OS.

Have you checked for virus's with a upto date virus scanner?

Does it freeze straight away or after you install your software? The new version of Windows causes problems with a lot of older software.

When installing new software are you rebooting straight after?

Are you using a cracked version of Windows?

One thing I REALLY recomment, is to check which motherboard you have, which chipset (available in the motherboard manual), then visit their website and download the latest CMOS for the board.. this will make it compatible with newer hardware, or implement new features - in most cases this fixes any boot problems.

If you've done that and it doesn't fix the problem, another good tip (and I found this essentisal with one motherboard) is to install the drivers for the motherboard chipset - this enables whatever features the motherboard has.
i.e VIA 4-in-1 drivers for VIA Chipsets, Intel drivers for Intel Chipsets.
Now while WinXP or Win2000 is canny at implementing support for these boards.. Win98/95 are crap at it, and must have the drivers so it knows what the hell it's doing.

th OS installs fine. its just when the pc boots from cold. it seems to freeze just b4 windows starts.

it is a cracked copy of windows but it happens with all versions so it cant be software. also it doesnt happen on my old pc with same copies.

I'd recommend NOT trying that till you've done everything else, and be careful if you do - you could end up with a dead motherboard otherwise!

There are usually 2 causes to this, A - Ur processor is overheating (fan might be knacked?) and B: Ur harddrive is broke, or the operating system instal cd

or the powersupply

but its when i do a cold star (its been off 4 a while) so how can the cpu be over heating?

take the cover off and look for anything loose.. see if the fan is workin properly.. are any vents blocked.... see if any connectiions are loose..

Thats the beauty of Dual-BIOS boards mate..
But generally you never have a problem in updating the CMOS chip.. it's rare that anything goes wrong.
