Hard drive upgrade - immediate restore? Ok heres the crack...running out of space on my hard disk... So gona get a 300gb disk. But, i cant be hooped to reload windows, updates, reinstall all my software etc etc...but I want to make use of the better hard drive spec, not just use it for storage. So can I quickly create an exact image of the disk and shift it over to the new drive? including registry and the like? Not had the need to do this before so not too sure the best way to go about it!! Gona get a 300gb disk...and probably make an exact split in partition, one for general running and the other for backup (using windows backup utility) - any tips for that aswell? Like I know you can set up partitions using the windows setup but what about just generally? Ta
As far as I'm aware you could make an image and ghost it across to the partion on the new drive.. U can actually create partitions in windows.. sometimes I do that with new drives.. format them in windows and partition them.. it takes a lot less time As for the windows backup procedure.. I don't have a clue! I just back up to DVD these days..
Screech the PRETENDY geek! You should know this! Ghost and Partition Magic...all you need. There's loads more tools do similar job though...google and see what you prefer.
