HABIT November - KENNY HAWKES 11/11/05

On Friday the 11th of November, Habit returns for it’s second instalment at ‘’The Other Rooms’, with one of the UK's leading house DJ's and producers - Kenny Hawkes.

Kenny has been a pioneering influence on the British dance scene for over a decade. As a kid growing up in Brighton, he soaked up the sounds of Motown, Ska, Hip Hop and Dub Reggae. As soon as he hit 18 he disappeared off to Southern Europe, where he spent endless evenings developing his DJ skills by playing at some of Europe's most notorious after hours clubs.

In the early 90's, Kenny returned to the UK to take charge of Pirate Radio Station "Girls FM". He soon attracted up to a million listeners a month, playing Downbeat, Dub, Soul, Techno and Garage. Kenny helped transform it into the most legendary underground dance music station that London had ever heard.

Then, with Luke Solomon, he set up London's longest running mid-week house club, "Space" at Bar Rumba.

Space closed its doors for the final time in 2002, after seven brilliant years as London's tour de force within the global house community which saw diverse and rich sets from the likes of Harvey, Francois Kevorkian, Mark Farina, and Derrick Carter.

Despite the closure of Space, Kenny keeps himself more than busy, always in demand, he DJ's abroad every weekend - having so far taken in 35 countries on his travels. In-between travelling and DJing, Kenny has also found the time to turn his hand to a successful production career.

His discography is more than impressive. He has produced a plethora of unit shifting slices of excellence, including the massive, critically acclaimed “Play The Game" and "Dance With Me" (Music For Freaks). These tracks also scored him number one hits in the dance charts of Europe. In 2003, he compiled an excellent compilation as part of the highly respected Nite:Life series (NRK). 2005 has seen Kenny release a cool rework of his own excellent "Sleaze Walking" (Paper/Brique Rouge).

Do not miss this chance to see one of the UK’s top house DJ’s/Producers in the intimate surroundings of Habit. Expect a hypnotic soundtrack of deep, edgy, house music with soul.

Support comes from Habit resident Mark Johnson

Pike, see you down the front.

Yeah, the basement is wicked Jambon. Proper little bat cave. Perfect for a few chilled beers before the main event.
