    Habit leaves Cosmic Ballroom

Secretsundaze on Friday 24th October will be the final Habit event held at the Cosmic Ballroom.

The position of holding nights at the venue have become untenable and our decision to leave has in no way been a rapid course of action that has been taken overnight.

At all times our priority has been to put on the best club night possible with the resources that we have. Above everything, as promoters we must feel that every aspect of the night is the very best it can be and enjoy what we are doing. Due to issues with the venue this has not been possible over the last few months.

The Cosmic Ballroom have been made fully aware of our decision and have been provided with extensive details of various factors and contributions to our reasons for leaving.

We will walk away with some very good memories from nights held over the last 2 and a half years such as Ame's first & subsequent outstanding performances, Tom Middleton providing an unforgettable evening back in February ‘07, Funk D’void, Simon Baker's debut and James Holden bringing Border Community to Newcastle. This year alone has seen standout events with Dixon and Joris Voorn.

Don't worry this is not the end of Habit. Our 4th Birthday will be held on Boxing Day @ World Headquarters and we have events planned for 2009 with the same mix of new acts along with regular favourites. But for now this is the last of our monthly events in 2008. As always we will keep you up to date on developments.

So in closing we would like to thank all of those that have helped make the night a success at the venue and more importantly we hope to see all the people who have supported us over the years get together for one final night at the Ballroom on Friday 24th October.

if nights arent built on a sound financial footing or instances of infighting occur plus if owners of venues start to take the p**s then nights will continue to disappear

has evolve officially gone, digital was telling someone on dsi it was on in nov?

Gary - Habit has not folded. It was Tyson and Wez that did them gigs above the bedrooms not us.

I totally understand your & Scott's decision to end things at Cosmic.
There needs to be some serious investment in the place & there are plenty of issues to iron out there before they can justify charging nearly £600 rent for a Friday night.

Good luck for the future lads :)

Hmm... I stand corrected then, I assumed with no events from different nights in the forthcoming months some were dropping off, apologies:)

We have Back to Basics trip this weekend, Secretsundaze next Friday at Cosmic, WHQ booked for Boxing Day for our 4th Birthday and more bookings already confirmed for next year so we are no where near 'folding'.

As said above we just refuse to operate at that venue any longer.

i had heard that the junior lot had a preferential deal

proudy , would you care to elaborate on that?

was everyone else not paying 450/500 when you guys were paying 250 - good skillz if that was the case

    Not sure mate?

GG were there from the Cosmic opening after it's refurb we paid £250pm until the new rent costs were revised (cant remember the exact date) then the rent doubled to £500. Im not sure which nights were paying what at that time.

Cant get over the Cosmics now £600 a month! when we did Recylced we had 2 of the largest rooms at the Uni, all the bar staff provided, doormen, lighting & sound technicians provided on the night & promo staff (provided by the University) flyering/postering for us in the lead up to the event all in for £850.

It's a shame the WHQ is so strict on their weekend music policy as it's one of the best clubs in town & not by any means overly priced to hire it, the sound is good & set up is all there for you.
