One of GSP's corner men was rubbing Vaseline on GSP's back/shoulders during the interval of round 1 + 2. BJ's corner has put a complaint forward about it. Not that it would have changed the outcome.
It is cheating though. Whichever way you look at it, if a corner man rubs Vaseline on a fighters body it's done so to make him slippery. It's in the hands of the athletic commission now though and they are the ones who hand out suspensions etc. It will be a shame if GSP is punished as I doubt he knew anything about it and it could cast a shadow of doubt on the whole fight now if the case goes all the way and it will give all the BJ fanatics a reason to call it an unfair fight. Pretty fucking stupid to think you'd be able to get away with something like that in front of cameras and fans especially in one of the most anticipated fights ever.
Dana said after the fight its not against the rules its just not sporting behaviour so I cant see it going anywhere
and here it is lol SI.com: What do you make of the Vaseline controversy? I just received word from B.J.'s camp, it seems like they're going to move forward with the complaint. What is your reaction to all this? St. Pierre: I just can't believe it. I don't know. I'm just surprised. I'm not a cheater. What happened is my trainer, my Muay Thai coach, he put Vaseline on my face and then put his hand on my chest and back. But that's a technique we use for breathing. It's good. It's used in Muay Thai. I use it in many of my fights. If you look at my previous fights, it's not the first time he does that. Then B.J. said he put Vaseline and rubbed my back. Anyway, I think it's an excuse. I have nothing to hide. I'm not even afraid to go into court and fight that. SI.com: Do you feel upset at all that maybe it's taking away from your victory? St. Pierre: Not at all. I haven't seen the fight yet, but I remember at some point something happened and the athletic commission was complaining. They used a towel to wet my back and wipe it off. I don't mind. I didn't put Vaseline on myself and I'm not a cheater. SI.com: The Penn camp says their approach to the fight was to go to the ground with you and work the guard, the rubber guard. And they said they first felt concerns in the second round. They saw B.J. trying to work the high guard and his legs were slipping down. Were you doing anything to make his legs come down? St. Pierre: Of course. I was training that. I was training when his legs come up to posture up. And when he got the position to keep my head always over his head. By staying in a vertical position his leg was naturally going to go down. If I stayed flat, he would have been able to bring his leg up. But I stayed in a vertical position. SI.com: Do you have any interest in fighting B.J. again? St. Pierre: I don't mind. If it's what he wants and the UFC wants, I don't mind. For that fight I'm going to train just as hard and even harder, and get even more prepared and better than I was.
was a good show from what i remember, was absolutely fucked watching it and was going bong eyed off the merson we'd being smashing in, but lyoto machida looked class and could be a proper mover and shaker at 205 that bones jones looked brilliant as well for someone only 20/21/22?? cant remember need to watch the re-run
here's the apparent card for 97 Anderson Silva Vs. Thales Leites Chuck Liddell Vs. Mauricio Rua Krzysztof Soszynski Vs. Brian Stann Prelims Jason MacDonald Vs. Nate Quarry David Loiseau Vs. Ed Herman Mark Bocek Vs. David Bielkheden wiv more TBA
apparent p4p top 10 1. Andersen Silva 2. GSP 3. Fedor 4. BJ 5. Miguel Torres 6. Rashad Evans 7. Forrest Griffin 8. Rampage 9. Thiago Alves 10. Mike Thomas Brown would have fedor no 1 loyke!
I'd probably have Miguel Torres as Number 1 but its hard to judge because theres not much competition for him in his weight.Machida earned his title shot now like.I think he would have a good chance against Evans
It is against the rules, otherwise everyone would do it. BJ's camp has now filed a formal complaint: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/29019021/
I think having vaseline put on the face before a fight shouldnt be allowed to be fair, it makes strikes less effective
Its to avoid friction burns and limits damage to cuts. Tbh theres no shortage of punches landed in mma so i dont see a need to stop the use of vaseline.
