I know that Rolls Royce who make the Trent engines for the majority of the airlines test the engines by actually firing already dead birds from a little cannon into a engine which is in a test rig to ensure that when the bird hits the engine and brakes one of the propellers, that propeller doesn’t actually get sucked into the engine and stays intact in place.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing like.. turbulence makes me wonder if a random bolt has come loose because the wrong one was fitted because someone worked on the plane in the dark when he was tired etc etc.... IT CAN HAPPEN!

I flew LAM (Mozambique Airlines) a couple of times. People brought chickens and goats onto the plane as hand luggage.

Flying is the safest way to travel man. Much rather some toff pilot whose spent years learning his trade fly me than some dodgy taxi driver doing a couple snide weekend shifts drive me.

I was in corfu in the beginning of july. On the flight home with Jet 2 we started to take off, got over half way down the runway when the engines went quiet and then the pilot slammed the brakes on. He managed to stop the plane before it went into the sea thank F**k. After an 18 hour delay to fix the plane we set off again. I was sh**ing myself when we were taking off the second time.

I've never been scared of flying and whenever turbulence hits I think it's fucking great, nowt like a free rollercoaster ride is there ;)

however, on the last holiday I was on there was a really strong smell of petrol as we were about to take off and i just had this vision of the plane going up in flames. :monkey:

Apparently it's nowt to worry about, just some excess fumes coming in through the air con

It's un-nerving all the same mind

Flying doesnt bother me, you have more chance of winning the lottery than being in a plane crash!

Although I got a little bit worried on our Jet2 flight back from Cyprus in June, never been in turbulence like that before

We flew through a storm coming back from Cyprus a few years ago and the plane dropped a few thousand feet when we hit an "air pocket" or something. I wasn't really bothered about flying back then and used to enjoy plane journeys so it didn't bother me.

Come to think of it, on the way out to Cyrus that year we had an 11 hour delay because a part was missing and they had to fly it over from Zurich, fix it then make sure it was working. We also had a oxygen mask hanging down for the whole journer there

I hate flying now though. We took ages to take off from Malaga last month. It seemed like we were going down the runway forever. When we eventually got airborn there was a MASSIVE bang near the front of the plane, loads of people screamed - I was a total mess for the rest of the flight like...... well at least until the alcohol was served I was :)

I think they should play drum and bass whenever planes hit turbulence. It would feel so relevant  :drunk:

I wonder if anyone has won the lottery then died in a plane crash. The chances of that must be insane!

Our plane got struck by lightening on the way back from Kos about 5 years ago, had to do an emergency landing at Manchester. What an almighty crack and flash it made. Theyre built to withstand it it though the emergency landing was just a precaution. Was touching cloth like.

    Read story 1.

Ok, so he didn't die in the plane crash. But I bet the odds on that happening to someone again are unreal!!
