    Goalkeepers ?

I was reading today that Wenger and jens lehamn have been asking for more portection for Goalkeepers ? Now after what happend over the weekend to chelseas two stoppers and seeing given getting injured Im inclined to agree with them but at the same time i think there need to be clearer rules on it as some decisions were a player is simply jumping with the keeper are classed as fouls ?

you can't go near them as it is, you jump near them when there's a cross and the ref blows up, footballs gonna be a none contact sport in general the way things are going.

but think of a fifty fifty , striker sliding in at a goalie whose basically sliding on his midrif with hands up . Whose going to come off worse ? the guy with metal studs and size tens pointed at him or the bloke who has to avoid some guys stomach and some padded gloves ?

I agree its a joke what the whistle is blown for sometimes in the box nowadays... the ball is in the air, ur gunna challenge for it and the keeper has a massive advantage already of been able to jump and extend his arms to punch/catch.

So if someone manages to out leap em and get their noggin on it fair enuf!! Why should they be penalised because they rubbed elbows or the defender pushed the striker into the keeper claimin a foul?!

What happened to Chelsea's keepers is just pure bad luck nothing to do with players suddenly having a vendetta against them!! There are always gunna be 50/50 balls all over the pitch including between keepers and strikers just unfortunate that somtimes some of em may get injured...

The whole point of having a 40 man squad is so you can replace injured players... its part of the game, always has been, just leave it....

Once upon a time players were just pleased to get on a pitch and get stuck in.... now they're more bothered about not being able to play golf midweek or making a photo shoot for Calvin Klein !!

That said.... what happened to Cech was unfortunate, it was an accident nothing more.... game on.....

There's been many goals scored through keepers not handling the ball properly and players sliding in, also alot of chances missed because a keepers slid out and dropped the ball but the strikers jumped over him. And also you made a stuid point, if the player slid in studs first he's most likely to get booked or sent off anyways because you can't go in with your studs.

Its a joke really, if the balls there to be won they should both go in for it. Goalies are allowed to use theyre feet too, they could give the striker as much damage as they get. You cant say a player cant challenge for a ball if there is a Goalie within 5 foot of it. Its a contact sport, Chelsea were unlucky and I hope Cech has a full recovery but you didnt hear all this palarva when Given got injured. Given, Roeder, Harewood and everyone else connected with the 2 clubs both accepted he was going for the ball and it is a part of football. Its just whinging foreigners who cant handle it :D
