    Getting your mix onto CD

Can anyone help - what is the best and cheapest way to get your mix recorded onto a CD?

I have a laptop with soundforge / nero etc and have read the excellent guide to recording mixes onto PC in this forum, but I dont have a decent soundcard and the only way it will work is thru the mic port on the laptop and sound quality is shite.

How do most other peeps do this? :dunce:

problem is me laptop aint got a line in jobby (piece of shit) - only the mic port. I was wondering if i need a better soundcard, or if i should just record onto MD, transfer to laptop and then just burn it onto CD?

I use a M-Audio audiophile usb, it's just an external box with stereo phono and jack inputs & outputs, and midi in/out, they cost about £120 (I think), and it is more than adequate for recording mixes, and midi.

Plugs into the usb port on your laptop, dead easy to set up too :D

    Hope that is some help

Not too sure about the creative stuff, when I worked in sound control we never used to sell it coz it was more a regular consumer product than a pro-level product, but things may have changed a fair bit since then.

The M-audio ones are the best in my opinion and the support for them is really good too, really good online tech support etc, there are others made by the likes of edirol.

    Sound Control

Mosley Street - (the one linking the swan house roundabout and the station)

Just next to where dean st starts

They'l give you the best advice and actually help you if you have a problem, if you get one from pc world etc, you might get a good deal, but if you have any problems, then they don't know about them, so they'll just tell you to ring tech-support, which will probs be a premium rate number - places like that are just box shifters, they don't care about getting you the right thing for you.

If you go to sound control, speak to rob, he's sound.

    Just something to consider.
