Getting data from a DVD with read errors

Is there a better way to do this than trying to create an image of the disk with Alcohol 120? Atm, I'm up to 9% after 35 minutes but theres been a load of (ignored) read errors so far.

The disk only has a few minor scratches on it but it's always had read errors for some reason. It's full of pictures and videos from the start of 2005 and i'd really like to salvage as much as possible from it.

If I try to view the contents, the explorer window freezes white with he cd drive revving forever.

    Any tips you could share?

I always use trial and error.. trying to copy batches across onto the hard drive and not all the data all at once.

This may sound stupid.. but try washing the disk in warm water with washing up liquid in.. and drying with a soft cotton towel..

    Sometimes works.. :)
