Gers 'agree' Boumsong sale Rangers chairman David Murray has admitted they are close to reaching a deal with Newcastle over the sale of Jean-Alain Boumsong. STICK YER HOGMANAY UP YER ARSE!!!!! It all about NYE doon the Toon
UPDATE.... Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has confirmed the club have reached a deal with Rangers to sign France international Jean-Alain Boumsong. The Premiership club are expected to pay £8m for the 25-year-old defender, who will complete his move after a medical at St James. The centre-half will sign a five-and-a-half deal with Newcastle.
i know woodgate has been injured so far this season, but do many newcastle supporters consider this a good buy from a business point of view? after all, you were promised several players from the sale of woodgate and boumsong eats up quite a large slice of that pie. that said, i think he'll probably turn out to be a very good buy.
From a business point of view, I wonder why Bobby & the crew didnt sign him 12 months ago. We have made a profit on Woodgate & fingers crossed bought a centre half who plays & still have cash left from the Woodgate sale.
Word/rumour is the Frenchie has got to play for the pride of Scotland against the Irish tossers before he joins us.
Cant say i've seen much of the bloke to be able to pass judgement so will wait til he plays before doing so. Although £8million seems canny steep just hope he doesnt turn out to be another Marcelino. Still need another centre back tho.
I am excited and the fans should be as well. We're strengthening the squad, and with Babayaro in we're now happy to get Boumsong. "We've been chasing him for a while, and I'm certain he will prove to be a tremendous acquisition for us. "It's an area we need to strengthen, and he will do that. He's a very talented player who will boost us. That is why the chairman is prepared to spend so much money on him. "I think it is public knowledge now that we have made an enquiry about Sylvain Distin, and hopefully I can confirm that without upsetting Kevin (Keegan). "You could throw a whole host of names at me, because I have had a whole host of names thrown at me from agents, journalists and friends of players. "We are actively looking to improve the squad, and as I said I think there are exciting times ahead. "We're not too far away from getting it right, we already have some talented players here and with some new additions I think we can look forward to moving up the table in the New Year. "With a bit of luck in games, and players coming back from injuries added to new signings, I'm confident we will quickly start winning football matches again."
I'm really pleased as well. I don't know a great deal about either player to be honest (don't watch a lot of non-Newcastle football) but from what I have seen and heard, they're better than what we've got.. and it's refreshing to see us trying to actually do something about the defence rather than just bitching and moaning.
Why do you say that?:spangled: Only heard good things about him, you should hear how gutted the Gers fans are about him leaving. I've always rated Babayoro, I just hope he's got the desire for it still. Distin could be a quality player for us if we get behind him again, and tbf I can't see us getting anyone else in better than him, for the money we've got left, or better player actually wanting to come to us atm.
Taylor has been a nice suprise.... Will he keep Carr out the team tho ??? Maybe not yet, CArr is a class act
Couldnt of put it better myself Carr's a liability at times, he lacks in height too which is gonna be a probs being a defender unless your world class - from what i have seen/heard of Taylor he's done class so far - gotta remem he's only young as well and desrved the chance and took it well As for Boumsong / Babayaro have to give them a chance, Babayaro if all reports are true's gonna fit right in isnt he
