    GCSE standards!!!!

In the Daily Telegraph yesterday they released what is required of students to get certain grades at school these days.....

Now baring in mind when i did GCSE's you had to get 80-85% to get an A.

Maths 48% to get an A...

    16% get you at least a C.....

Now bearing this in mind, actually how intelligent are students today?

And those not passing, how thick are they?

maths has been like that for years, and that applies to the higher paper.

EVERY YEAR they say this, its tiring.

it's shite, thats what it is!

I did higher maths in 1996 and i think i got 76% and got a B, which i think is respectable......

Kids these days dont know they're born!

I am in the middle of a degree at the moment that works off a credit system, and i only have to get 40% to get the required score to get the 60 credits to achieve that module. Thats shit! So effectively you could say that all i have to do is fail my whole course and i'll still pass....?????

    the system is wrong!

    Re: GCSE standards!!!!

The Daily Telegraph are manipulating the truth to make people such as yourself think that today's GCSE students aren't as clever as you, and have it a lot easier than you did. It generally comes from their chinless editors who sit in their offices eating cucumber sandwiches, internally soured at the fact that today's students are achieving better results than they did at Rugby/UCS/Highgate/etc.

There are three papers you can sit in GCSE Mathematics, Higher, Intermediate and Foundation. At Foundation level, the highest grade you can achieve is a grade D. At Intermediate, you can achieve anything from a B to a G, and Higher allows the award of A*- C. Those A and C grade boundaries are true for the Higher paper only, and the number of students who are entered for the Higher paper are seriously limited (even I didn't do it). The boundaries in the other papers are the same as usual (80% B, 70% C, etc.), as are the grade boundaries in other subjects (Mathematics is the only subject with three papers, all others have two, Foundation and Higher, which have different grade allowances to those of Mathematics).

Don't be tricked into thinking GCSEs are any easier than they used to be by the media's manipulation of the truth.

They seem complete bollocks. How the fuck can you only get 48% and get an A?

    Just doesn't makes sense.

    It is totally untrue.

Nearly 50% of GCSE students this year failed to get a GCSE a-c grade in mathematics. And the same same figure failed to get 5 GCSEs A-C overall.

    Re: Re: Re: GCSE standards!!!!

it is true, for higher maths.

Lulu - My degree works like this also, 40% gets you a PASS, and a degree that is just a "pass" with no creditation isnt going to get you very far at all!

Aye, don't believe a word the of what is written in the paper. At least not when they try to tell you anyone, on any paper can get a good grade with as little as 16%.

A C is hardly a good grade. Especially when you're sitting a paper which you'd have to be a complete retard not to get an A* in.

So anyone who didn't get an A* is a complete retard?

Obviously you didn't get straight A's if that's the case.

Do you have some of mental problem which prevents you from being able to read?

I said that a C isn't a particularly good grade. I also highlighted that it would be a particularly bad grade WHEN sitting a higher paper, in which it should be particularly easy to achieve an A*, or at least an A.

Do you think that somebody who scores 16% on an exam isn't a retard? I'd be scared to see what kind of school you went to.

You can only get an A when doing the higher paper you fucker!

*Which you weren't even entered into so you've pretty much flawed your argument.

That is not my argument, you tit. I'm not even talking about myself. I completely failed my GCSEs, I'm not even denying that. What I am trying to point out is that generally, somebody who had sat the higher paper and only achieved a grade C could be considered to have scored particularly badly, given the low grade boundaries.

    Comprendez? :dunce:
