Gatecrasher Classics @ The Works, Birmingham – 25.2.06 GATECRASHER CLASSICS @ THE WORKS, BIRMINGHAM – 25.2.06 Continuing their fine array of ‘Gatecrasher Classics’ events, The Works in Birmingham will once again be the perfect setting for Gatecrasher for another nine hours of classic after classic. Asking any discerning Gatecrasher clubber what their favourite era at the club was, you’d hardly be filled with surprise to hear them refer back to around the 1997 mark. At that point, the headliner for this particular Classics event – DJ Taucher, who was held in cult status. His name is Taucher – the German word for diver. There are not many DJs who played Gatecrasher who caught as much attention as DJ Taucher who, back in the days, entered the scene in his fantastic scuba-gear, established himself as an authentic artist and hardly missed a party ever. Taucher caused quite a stir from behind his turntables. Endowed with extraordinary flair and intuition, he selects and creates exquisite Trance tunes. Equipped with outstanding talent and skills, he knew how rock the Gatecrasher faithful through the night. Apart from his mixing skills and finesse, Taucher loves to communicate with his audience, entertaining them with extravagant outfits and crazy dance breaks. A night with the Taucher is an outstanding experience. The Taucher may suddenly appear hanging upside down from a pole above the DJ booth (like he did Gatecrasher in November of 1998. Joining Taucher, we’re graced with the likes of Signum, JFK, Riley & Durrant and DJ FUBAR. The ‘Gatecrasher Classics Album Tour’ has now visited many, many places around the UK – as well as delivering electrifying, moment-grabbing parties at the firm bases of Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham. Both albums have, to date, sold nearly half a million copies and the regularity of these events has stepped up a gear. Of course, one individual could never really have an overall right to say which was THE best Gatecrasher moment, from the club’s substantial 16 year history. True, there have been many to experience. Appearances of international heavyweights such as Tiesto, Mauro Picotto, Armin Van Buuren; the rise of the ‘local heroes’ such as Scott Bond, Matt Hardwick, Eddie Halliwell and the sets they tore the club apart with; the feeling of walking onto the sites for the first time of the Don Valley, the NEC and loads more; gagging for the likes of ‘Carte Blanche’, ‘Age Of Love’ or ‘Gouryella’ to get played and seeing thousands of others enjoying the same elation when it does. The original Gatecrasher family re-unites, re-ignites and remembers. Taucher has mixed albums for the likes of Polystar, Sony and EDM and is known as a true trance performer, with stage performances that you wouldn’t come to expect from anyone else (think in terms of hanging from a pole, climbing scaffolding and the like). Taucher’s production grabbed the attention of the likes of Sony as early as 1994 and has since excelled him to work on remixes for the likes of Faithless, Robert Miles, Cherrymoon Trax and Culture Beat. ‘Coming On Strong’, ‘What Ya Got For Me?’ and remixes along the lines of Lost Tribe’s ‘Gamemaster’ will be of notable reference for a discography that oozes both quality and quantity for Signum. Pascal and Ron have to take in both the USA and Sweden after their appearance at Gatecrasher – all part of their hectic schedule. Last year they were part of the Two Tribes Tour 2005, alongside artists such as Armand Van Helden and The Prodigy. Gatecrasher resident JFK is one of the hardest working and prolific trance DJ’s to date. Having juggled an extensive gig diary that has seen him travel around the globe, production for the likes of Y2K and Mondo and running Midlands mecca ‘Passion’, more recent times have seen Jason celebrate the first birthday of his own ‘Live and Loud’ night, as well as playing a prominent role in Gatecrasher’s recent success. Some argue that his classics sets are the pick of the bunch – we’ll leave you to decide. Riley & Durrant, better known as Andi Durrant and Nick Riley, are one of the scene’s most recent success stories. You just wonder if these guys get time to sleep with all they have going on. Running numerous Galaxy FM shows, an extensive and ever-growing gig diary, Gatecrasher residents, production and remixes for the likes of Black Hole (Holland), Yazuka (Holland) and a whole lot more! DJ FUBAR is a prominent feature in both Ibiza and Mallorca – as well as quite a regular for the ‘Gatecrasher Classics’ parties too. He also runs his own ‘Sunday Club’ in Blackpool where he attracts the likes of both Dave Pearce and Jeremy Healy and since the turn of the century has also spun for the Ministry of Sound as far a field as Thailand and Bangkok. Si Paul (also known as Lost Witness) began scratch mixing with Chad Jackson. Going on to manage Tidy Trax, he then began promoting his own night ‘Wallop’ and touring the likes of Japan, Brazil and Australia. His production as Lost Witness bore the awesome, timeless classic ‘Happiness Happening’, at the time when he was also responsible for ‘Fine Night’ (under his ‘Dusk Til Dawn guise). His own SPM Management has also looked after the likes of the Filterheadz and is also an important feature on Ministry Of Sound Radio. Any promoters wanting to host a ‘Gatecrasher Classics’ party at their venue / night should contact Dean Webster on 0114 2526110 for further information.
