    Future Nights @ Digital

The scabs (AKA Wella & Chrissy G) are playing this Saturday & Metropolis was on last night. But long term they wont last, who do you reckon will move in to any of the now available slots at Digital? Will any local promoters want to take the step up or will it be cheque book clubbing & major clubbing brands drafted in from outside?

It's definitely a tricky one, I can image a few folk a Digital itching their heads right now. The nights that upped sticks & left were for me the main bread winners for the Club (minus maybe Waxon) with the residents/promoters all having years of genre knowledge & experience behind them, sometimes you cant put a price on that when it comes to club nights, anyone can stick your PVD's & Eric Morrillo's on but long term you need people involved thats forward thinking & bang into the music itself otherwise the night has no direction or creativity.

Id imagine theres a number of nights interested in hosting their thing at Digital but would it work? they'd have to take into consideration that 3 of the main nights have left will all presumably find new venues, could they really be bothered trying to compete with establishments that have been up & running for years & know the City inside out? It's a big risk to take on & I dont care how well off a night/promoter is everyone hates loosing money, take Gods for a perfect example, one of the biggest nights in the UK but it didnt work up here. If the Club has ideas on mimicking the nights that have left for me that would also be suicide & a pointless venture.

Like I say it's a tricky one but suppose only time will tell, the club will survive the next few weeks from passing trade & the Digital brand name, but if punters aren't seeing the line-up's their used to most weeks there gunna loose interest fast & if Shindig & the likes are hosting these 1 off free parties elsewhere then theres gunna be a whole lot of punters that start arranging their weekend nights out around places other than Digital, then what you have on your hands is a multi-million pound club that can only pull 500-600 punters at a weekend which wont cover half nor quarter of the staffing costs, overheads, marketing/promo.

    It's scary when you think.

...Unless they reposition their brand & go down the commercial route where the club would probably sell out on a weekly basis:cry:

thats what i was thinking. from the reports i've heard so far on how busy thus/fri night was, it doesn't look good - maybe the new bosses weren't expecting such a drop. it won't take long for it have a massive impact - but there any other BIGGER nights it can get to fill the club? maybe, but are they the types of nights they might want to be associated with? Also, a few more months, it's the summer season - students go home, people go on holiday, festivals.....

The list is endless when you think how much of a downward spiral things could go. Your 100% right in what your saying - is there any other nights in town that could pull the punters Shindig/Stonelove/Turbulence did so consistently, I for 1 cant think of any?

we could speculate that they'll have to go the commercial route but it'll have an impact on the gay area of town........

It would cripple it mate, then what you have on your hands once you've went down the commercial route is everything that comes with it: The Clientel will change, Arrests in the area will no doubt increase, Local areas will be subject to vandalism, that part of town over a period of time would have a reputation. I could be blamed for stereotyping but it's been a proven fact with what happened over the Gateshead side with the Tuxedo.
