Simon Quick has been Dj'ing for roughly 7 years but has been a obsessor of dance music ever since his sisters intoxicated his childhood with their illegal rave tapes that the school janitor used to sell at dinnertime. Big influences on his style have come from such diverse people as Carl Cox , DJ Rap , Derrick Carter , Tyrant , James Zabiela and the legendary west coast sounds of H-Foundation. His sets are a mainframe of house music , sealed together with deft use of loops and fx. With the integration of the Pioneer EFX 500 module and the Pioneer CDJ Decks,, the tracks are often unrecognisable to the listener as these machines let him loose to take apart the sounds and add a live remix element to his sets. Never one to stick to the same sound , his sets will switch from deep jacking rhythms to fat electro bass with a tweaking of an EQ and yanking of a filter. Based in Newcastle , England , his past gigs in Newcastle have taken him to nights including Fragile , The Sound Sessions , Resistance and warming up for stellar night , Wax:On. Gigs further afield have taken him to Derby and down to London on 2 occasions , one for Resonance @ Public Life alongside Southampton superstar , Tom Budden and the other one , a dream gig at The Ministry Of Sound playing alongside his hero Derrick Carter , Kenny Hawkes , Phil Weeks and Dan Harwood. It was the promoters of Resonance who , after hearing Simon at their own night , decided that he would be the man for the job to represent Resonance @ The Ministry. Aswell as his external gigs , Simon is also a resident at the exciting :habit night in Newcastle. Having grown from its roots at Clear Bar , it has now moved to exciting new venue, The Other Rooms having relocated itself to WHQ after Clear. Past guests to :habit have been Desyn Masiello (whos event with 16b for :habit at the multimillion pound venue , The Sage , was the first of its kind) , King Unique , Silicone Soul , Funk D'Void and Alex Smoke. Novembers guest is the brilliant Kenny Hawkes and future acts will have the people of Newcastle running to the doors of :habit.
