Freaky Dancing :: Friday 30th June :: The Cosmic Ballroom :: UK Underground Showcase Freaky Dancing :: Friday 30th June :: Cosmic Ballroom UK Underground Showcase :: Be There or be [] Following our recent escapades at the seaside, Freaky Dancing returns to the Cosmic Ballroom on Friday 30th June for what's sure to be another storming night of proper underground techno, breaks and other stuff we like. This month Freaky Dancing presents a UK Underground Showcase, bringing together a few of the unsung heroes of the UK's underground techno scene and helping to unite the underground techno tribes of Wales, Scotland and the North East. Main Room : Techno Steevio [Ableton Live Set] [Mindtours / ex 3000003 / Viva / Roost Records / Wales] A return visit to Freaky Dancing, and proper home coming party for the ex newcastle 30003 / Roost Records / Viva star Steevio. Steevio is now resident in deepest darkest Wales, running the increasingly respected Mindtours Record Label and club night & producing and releasing some of the best underground minimalist proper techno around... if you've not heard of him, this quote from DJ Mag ought to give you some idea as to what to expect... 'Ritchie Hawtin is a fan of Steevio' DJ MAG Steevio's underground pedigree goes back a long, long way, right back to before half the Freaky Dancing crowd were even born to 1980 when Steevio co-managed the UK's first electro / breakdance club called The Sidewalk in the fine city of Newcastle Upon Tyne... so let's give Steevio the homecoming he deserves. Luckily they also absolutely rocked the dancefloor at a party the Freaky Dancing crew saw them at recently with Junior Lazarou and Malky X basically battling it out on a 909 each, layering bits from each of their tunes over the top of the other guys tunes and chopping between them in some mental techno version of the hip hop turntablists battle sets... We figured with the combination of being absolutely nuts, and incredibly talented they'd fit in perfectly at Freaky and offered them their debut straight away. For those who've not come across it yet, The Froot Soundsystem AKA Club Froot has been gaining a strong following among the techno party scene north of the border over the last couple of years with regular monthly nights at the infamous Room at The Top. Or in their own words... FROOT SOUND SYSTEM & club FROOT :est 2004. A MIXED COCKTAIL OV DJ's AND LIVE TECHNO PRODUCERS. BROUGHT TOGETHER IN THE COMMON CAUSE OF THE SCOTTISH PARTY SCENE,DECENT TECHNO,HOUSE & UNDERGROUND CLUB NIGHTS. ANARCHY & DISCO BALLS. "VIVA LA DISCONISTA'S!" A junior Lazarou live set (without Malky X) is available by clicking here <clicky> or check out The Froot Soundsystem at www.clubfroot.org or www.myspace.com/frootsoundsystem Suade [Dex n EFX] [Adapted Vinyl] A long overdue return to Freaky Dancing from Suade, after several years AWOL in Barcelona. For the uninitiated, Suade is head honcho of Adapted Vinyl, long time Freaky Dancing comrade in arms and Newcastle Techno stallwart from the days of The Rabble Alliance / Red Eye Knights / Fast Breeder (the prequels to Freaky Dancing). As it says on the website adapted vinyl is a record label dedicated to releasing high quality electronic music and as the guiding light behind the label, Suade pretty much does what it says on the tin. Richy Griffin [3 deck set] Richie Griffin is a long time Freaky Dancing regular on the dancefloor who will be making his Freaky Dancing debut with a storming 3 deck set to finish off the night in style. Richy earned this set by giving me 2 absolutely class demo CD's of him ripping it up on 3 decks, and I have to say I'm not easily impressed after 10 years as a DJ and Club promoter, but Richy definately has the potential to go on to be up their with the likes of Ben Simms with his energetic 3 deck style. There was no way we could waste Ruchy with a warm up set, so we're dropping him in at the deepend in true sink or swim style by handing over the final hour so he can really show us what he's about. Room 2 : Breaks Bobzilla [Tubbyphunk] Freaky Dancing finally hooks up with Middlesborough's finest, and arguably* the longest serving and most respected breaks DJ's in the North East DJ Bobzilla. Bob is head boy of the Tubbyphunk family, responsible for one of the most respected breaks websites on the net... www.tubbyphunk.com and has held residencies at a host of clubs over the last 10 years including Get ya Skates On, Newcastle - Sherbet, Leeds - Keep it Royal, Leeds, Left of Centre, Middlesbrough - Arena State Circus, Middlesbrough, Dirty Franks Disco Bar, Middlesbrough. He's also DJ'd with the likes of Jon Carter, The Freestylers, Dee Kline, Stereo 8, EZ Rollers, Dub Pistols, Adam Freeland, Freq Nasty, Propellerheads, Tayo, Shut Up & Dance, The Herbaliser, Scratch Perverts, Xpress2, to name but a few. Pete Samplers [Freaky Dancing / Drunken Unstable] Pete has become a full member of the Freaky Dancing breaks crew over the last year after landing in the north east fresh from several years running Liverpool's pioneering breaks night 'Fish & Chips' [we've yet to properly rip the piss out of Pete about the name]. Pete's first release on the Drunken Unstable Imprint called ‘Dirtbag’, gained rave reviews and a load of interest from labels and DJ’s from all over the world, since when Pete has DJ'ed and played with his live band (MASS Present Chef) at clubs and festival's all over the world. Electrofried [Freaky Dancing] Freaky Dancing's resident back roombreaks specialist and promoter has been pushing the breaks sound in the North East since 1998, with residencies and guest spots at the likes of SUbway, Cause & Effect, Arcane, Plastic (Leeds), K-os, AV Festival and even a sneaky slot on the Glade Stage at Glasto. *we say arguably because all 3 of the DJ's playing in the backroom could well stake a claim for this title, so if you see us bickering drunkenly behind the decks this might well be what this is about + full visuals, decor, and hopefully lasers an appearance from our resident fire dancers SUMMER SALE :: REDUCED ENTRY PRICE ONLY £6 nus / ALL BEFORE 11PM / £8 AFTER FREAKY DANCING LOVES YOU FRIDAY 30TH JUNE 2006 10.30PM - 3AM THE COSMIC BALLROOM STOWELL STREET (CHINATOWN) NEWCASTLE
Re: Freaky Dancing :: Friday 30th June :: The Cosmic Ballroom :: UK Underground Showcase I am going to turn up just to see if you suck this guy off during his set
Was a good night friday like, the live set were a bit boring at first though got quite tough in their last hour. Then Richie rinsed the club for the last hour, banging as fuck right from his first tune
what a night!!! the crowd were class, really enjoyed it nice to meet all the freaky crew, all sound people! graham- you were loven the techno
lol... thought it'd all gone a bit dark and smelly like Richie was class from the bit of his set I caught before I hit the decks upstairs. Thanks to all who came down and turned this into another class night, we'd not really expected to be that busy, so it's good to see people not just turning out for the big names and showing support for new talent...
