Kia Foyen and Ant Gould are supporting in the main Room. Space dj's Biog. skateboarding, BMXes, and breakdancing to early hip hop and electro. This B Boy attitude and the discovery of Detroit techno eventually inspired them to enter the studio and experiment with breakbeats and techno. Before coming together to form the Space DJz, Jamie founded the excellent dub techno outfit "Bandulu" along with John O'Connell and Lucien Thomson. The friends started making music together seven years ago and since then their sound has mutated into a fusion of no holds barred techno, electro, hip hop and breakbeats. The production equipment they use includes a combination of digital and analogue based synths as well as the usual ingredients of techno — Roland 808, 909 and various samplers. Their live extravaganza sees them manipulating four turntables, two mixers and a 909 drum machine with dynamic turntable skills which result in an aural explosion of beats, scratching and turbo funk. They describe their style as "Fatt, Funky, Far out and Full of Flavour." With their unique performance they have travelled the globe including all over west and eastern Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada. Their early releases were on the now highly collectable Infonet Records with "The Space DJz EP" in 1993. Aside from Soma they have produced material for "Reload", "Ongaku" and "NovaMute". Individually they have also had very successful production careers. Ben has his own cutting edge label "Potential" and Jamie also has his own highly sought after label "Ground". Both of these labels were set up to serve as an outlet for their solo material but they have featured the remix talents of some of techno's finest producers. Potential has hosted reworks from The Advent, Chris McCormick, Oliver Ho, Indigo Kennedy, Gaetek, Umek and Ade Fenton while "Ground" has shown the talents of Chris McCormick and Claude Young. Making their Soma debut in 1996, the Space DJz graced our presence with their fine blend of blazing techno, firing beats and hot hiphop breaks. Their single "Lights" was known to obliterate dancefloors all over. More recently the guys have returned to Soma to release their second single. The chaotic charm of "Solaris" received great reactions from DJ's. Their debut album "On Patrol" is a finely crafted hybrid of different styles which manages to encompass the varied influences and backgrounds of the individuals behind it. There is no evidence of over indulgence and a perfect harmony is created with a good balance of dancefloor stormers and experimental tracks. Of their relationship with Soma the boys say "Soma means quality dance music from across the board." The boys have recently been on tour of the UK and Europe with their live show and they predict that the Space DJz will "go to new sonic heights never reached by mortal man before."
Well tell us mr kHUNT who freaky should get on you tidious boring allias. Do you actually doing any thing worthwhile with your time other than telling other poeple how to do things better. Try actual having a life and having something interesting to say for once.
was hopen to see these at some point, love there style and got a canny few of their tunes. Never thought they would end up in town like but all the same nice one!
they played for us 3 years ago at the uni, and were absolutely class... Must admit they hardly seem to be playing the UK at all at the minute, the last schedule I got had one london date & about 10 dates all over Europe, so this would seem to be a bit of a rare UK outing for them. Space DJz are also doing the remix for the next release on Testin Out Records - the label we work closely with, and are being managed by one of our ex crew, so there's a fair few links going on between us. In case anyone's wondering both Jamie Bismire & Ben Long are coming up, so it's a proper space djz show. Just starting to wind up for this now, starting to get the feeling it's gonna be another class night out, what with it being the bank holiday and all that... and I'm actually playing myself again so watch out for some breakbeat inspired chaos in the backroom later on
Are they doing the 4x2 thing or just Back2Back? Know they just did B2B last time, hoping for the 4x2, but is there the space? It's just Ben that's doing the Testin Out remix, by the way - which should be seeing the light of day in a month or so, all being well. Haven't heard a joint Space DJz production for ages, but they're both pretty busy solo-wise, Jamie with his 50HZ label, and Ben with his Potential label.
back to back or some such scenario, partly because of space & partly they seem reluctant to do the 4 deck thing at the moment. Was a bit annoying last time as I'm sure we'd got the 4 deck set up sorted for them... or maybe my memories playing tricks on me:spangled: is it just ben doing the testin out thing then, the way paul was telling it it sounded like it was going under the space djz name... still, should be class whatever
heard acouple of 50hz tunes, you can deffo hear the hip hop influance... all good!! heavy beats:chill:
we're all sorted and looking very good for this, and I've just got a load of new tunes for my first freaky set in ages... properly looking forward to this now lasers, fire dancers, visuals, decor and all dj's all sorted so it's all systems go hope to see a fair few of you tomorrow are you coming again jess? gd to meet you last time
