    yes i know *Sigh* another training thread, blah blah blah. sorry but i though with some people on here knowing the crack i'd thought i would give it a shot. right;

    i'm joining the royal marine commandos at the end of summer (i've got my pre-interview malarky next week, even though around 90 percent of people i know have either told me i'm an idiot or just dont believe me, which tbh isnt putting me off and making me want to join more.) and i've managed to get my 1.5 mile down in 10 minutes and 1 second, when you have to do it within 10 minutes 45. now - its the 3 days that they take you for an assesment that getting me - i've got a plan worked out to get me to the level that i ought to be at when i join as follows:

    Week 1

    Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

    Morning:
    * 10 press ups
    * 15 sit ups
    * 10 tricep dips
    * 10 squat thrusts
    * Repeat each set 3 times. Afternoon:
    * Monday: 15 minute run with emphasis on powering yourself up hills.
    * Tuesday: 25 min bike ride or 15 min swim
    * Thursday: 15 min run
    * Friday: 25 min bike ride or 15 min swim
    * Saturday: 15 min run
    * Complete each activity with 3 pull-ups (wide grip, overhand)

    Week 2:

    # Repeat week 1.

    Week 3

    * Do exactly the same as you have been doing, but add 5 reps to each exercise.
    * Add 5 mins to the run, bike and swim.
    * Add 1 rep to the pull-ups.

    Week 4

    * Add another 5 reps to each exercise.
    * Add 5 mins to the run, bike and swim.
    * Add 1 rep to the pull-ups.

    Week 5

    * Again, do the same as you have been doing, but add 5 reps to each exercise.
    * Add 5 mins to the run, bike and swim.
    * Add 1 rep to the pull-ups.

    Week 6

    * Do the same, but again add 5 reps to each exercise.
    * Add 5 mins to the run, bike and swim.
    * Add 1 rep to the pull-ups.

    Week 7

    Morning:
    * 25 press ups
    * 30 sit ups
    * 25 tricep dips
    * 25 squat thrusts
    * Repeat each set 3 times. Afternoon:
    * Monday: 30 minute run - try to power yourself up hills.
    * Tuesday: 40 min bike ride or 30 min swim
    * Thursday: 30 min run
    * Friday: 40 min bike ride or 30 min swim
    * Saturday: 30 min run
    * Complete each activity with 3 pull-ups (wide grip, overhand)

    does this sound ok? i'm completely unsure because i'm doubting where my fitness has to be at when i start the Pre Marine Course.

    otherwise its all peachy creamy. or indeed if i fail they'll hoy me in the bum brigade.

    @ Jimi - did you join the navy? and what was the crack with the fitness tests and stuff? i know its around 12mins 45 seconds for the 1.5 run - but thats a piece of piss, its just the afters i havent a clue about. :evil:

    keep the running varied, dont run every day or you wont recover properly. get one long run in a week (build up to an hour or something) do sprints once a week to improve ur speed. good luck fella!

    cheers lads, can't wait now tbf - the only daunting thing is the pain involved with the weighted 30 mile run - but after 30 odd weeks of intense training - i can imagine it would be easier than after just being at the gym a few + times a week.

    then bang into action, can't fucking wait :D

    I was too, but the RAF seems alot more Trade related than anything else, plus my thoughts changed on what i wanted to do force wise.

    the Marines - even though hard - seems alot more rewarding in the long run.

    Also, the chinups... you are probably doing overhand military chins yeah... well im pretty sure they do that... but not with a bar.

    its on a beam.. so your hands dont grip around it

    i might be wrong but when buzz did the test back when he was 18 or something, im sure thats what he failed on.

    My step-brother got blown up on 'patrol' in December.

    Not trying to put you off, and I really do wish you luck, but too many people seem to think that it won't happen to them. That's what Jack thought.
