    Mono Amine Oxidase Inhibitor. MAO is an enzyme in our body which breaks down monoamines, which include neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin (chemicals released by MDMA and other stimulants). Old style anti-depressants were MAOI's and people on them had to be very careful with their diet, avoiding foods with the amino acid Tyrisine (iirc) in, whci would normally be broken down by MAO.
