Flags of our fathers really good film about the raising of the flag on iwo jima island by the americans in ww2 if anyone didnt know. shows the political side behind the whole event aswell. the action sequences are top notch and up there with saving private ryan. also directed really well by eastwood who is an amazing director i think. i'll be watching the other film linked to this 'letters from iwo jima detailing the japanese point of view, one bit that got me thinking was a part about a tortured soldier played by jamie bell, a quick look on wikipedia and i found out exactly what the japs did to him which was horrifc. the marines name was Ralph "Iggy" Ignatowski, e was captured and tortured for upto 3 days by the japs, had everything from his eyes ripped out to his genitals cut off and put into his mouth. just made the film stik in my head alot more than normal because its real. anyway good film
aye what they did to billy elliot was unforgiveable. seriously though, i thought it was a good film. i also looked up what happened to iggy and its awful. kinda made me not want to watch letters from iwo jima at first, as the stories about japanese brutality are rife. i think i will give it a go though at some point.
