    Firewire....

    (I have googled and failed)

Basically, I've just built meself a new comp, with an asus A8V motherboard.

The USB ports work fine, but when you connect a firewire device, it will charge it, without getting a data connection.

1394 is enabled in the bios, and is present in network connections, with no problems reported.

I'm totally stuck, it must be connected right if there's power getting through, and it seems to be installed OK, because its in network connections, and I have SP2 on.

If anyone has any ideas, they'd be much appreciated!! :king:

My firewire connection to my HDD was shite. It was slower than usb and kept dropping it, which is always handy when youre trying to save something

Thanks for the help guys, but it's still not working....

Juski, basically, what I'm trying to do is establish a firewire connection with my old laptop, to transfer a load of stuff across.

I tried this, but it couldn't establish a connection, so I thought it might be easier to make sure the firewire was working by testing it with an iPod first - this works fine on the laptop.

I've tried what you suggested about disabling it in network connections, but it's still not finding it, though it is still charging it - I've installed anipod, and that can't detect it either.

    Strange

u had other firewire stuff working on that PC? mine old motherboard wouldn't support a fireware card for whatever reason.

like juski said - search for any more recent drivers for the m/b or ic card
