firewall/port forwarding reet ive set it up in my router but is that all I have to do? what about setting it up with "PC Guard" some godawful blueyonder firewall which is so unconfigurable it smells like a bum cigar? im trying to d/l lost, but ive had it on for about 10 years now and its only getting about 6kbps but can get about 50kpbs summats not on, cos we have that new 2 smeg bb thingy whatsit (can you just tell im a computer genious)?
if you have set the ports to forward to YOUR ip address on the router then thats all u need aye. make sure u forward whatever ports tho to your local IP - else it wont work.
What sleepy means in english (well sort of ): You router will work with private (local/intneral) IP addresses and a public (external/WAN) IP address. If you go to start, run, then type 'cmd' - at the command prompt type 'ipconfig' It will say something about a network card, but more importantly, there will be a line that says "IP Address", which is probably either going to be along the lines of 10.0.0.x or 192.168.0.x (where X is a number) and this is your local/private address. so when you set up the port forward, you put in the torrent ports, and then it should be forwarded to this local IP, think of it as a tunnel through your firewall. And thats it.
I eventually sorted my prob after contacting manufacturers. It would only let me forward ports with a range of 20! So instead I had to enable DMZ or summat, put my ip address in and it automatically forwards all ports apparently. It works now anyhoo..... well part from DC++ :spangled:
Putting your PC into a DMZ isnt the best idea from a security perspective...like you say it forwards all ports and you shouldnt have to do that to use specific applications. Sounds like a fairly crap bit of kit really....how much did you pay for it? Just seems so limited!
The email response I got was: "The port forwarding is only allowed maximum 20 ports. If you enter a range eg: 100-200, you need 100 ports, so the router doesn't accept it." :spangled: sounds bollocks but I couldnt find a way around it. I dint actually buy it was a present this is the one I've got, so have a look: http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/product_...3270&group=ADSLR&pgroup=ADMOD&ref_site=kelkoo
tbf port forwarding is the biggest fuck on ever, i only managed to sort it out the other week with the help off someone on here, and i know my way around a pc quite well.
Me too. I can normally suss things meself or find a guide to do it and I''m sorted but it was a right pain in the arse. I mean that portforward.com site is good but it dint have my router on it! And the version before was completely different. The manual/refs they give with the products are bullshit too! No help whatsoever.
