    Firewall Help

Right anyone recommend a firewall for the following setup that wont block other users on a network:-

    1. Main PC
    Connected to hub with ethernet
Connected to broadband with usb modem

    2. 2x Laptops and 1x PC
    Connected to hub wirelessly
Connected to broadband by sharing the connection on Main PC

    Cheers

If ur using XP turn on ICS on your internet connection.

    Disable XP built in firewall.

    Install Sygate firewall.

Sygate is too "loud" for my liking, I prefer the silence of ZA.

You need to add the machines to the Trusted Zone in Zone Alarm and that should solve matters. Turn internet Zone to medium also.

Easiest and cheapest if you's don't want a router. But - if you don't want your pc's resources used and you want to switch it off occasionally - go for a router.

Zone Alarm does do the trick tbh, all ports are stealthed, passes all the security test site things.

I run spybot every other day to keep things clean, not that much gets in at the minute.

Sygate seems good, but when you select the "don't show me this dialog again" box....it will reappear after a few minutes, which did my head in. Zone Alarm obeys. :D

And on top of that theres AVG....so pretty safe!!

As I've said to you before - you never did find that options menu, did ya?

Probs with ZA - it's not configurable in any way enough (even the pro version too), it doesn't keep enough tabs on running apps, even the logs are pants.

+ running spybot on it's own isn't really going to help you much. You need summinck that'll detect and stop worms and trojans, which ZA is not good at, but Sygate alerts you when progs change or do strange things, and blocks them til you take action. Sygate all the way... :king:

Spytgate is mint tbh, tho a trojan really didnt like it when I installed it alongside. A short visit to the spyware doctor and sygate runs perfect, havent had a bit of spyware/adware since :D

linux boy and dopey have a point... sygate seems pretty good as a firewall - ZA was always a bit fisher price for me - and then a few other were all a bit too techy....
