    Fire Wire Cards

right, bought miself a digital Video camcorder and IEEE1394 Firewire card to stick in mi pc so i can download the DV onto my pc and burn a few VCD's. Only problem is my pc won't pick up my firewire card. the mother board is about 2yrs old with a P3 500MHz processor. Once XP boots, it doesn't even recognise there's been a new piece of hardware installed - nothing. Tried new hardware wizard - nowt. Thinking it might be a IRQ prob, i pulled out the soundcard and modem so none of the PCI slots were used and it was by itself - still nowt. Tried it in each PCI slot - nowt. Reset the BIOS defaults - Nowt. Won't even pick up the card. i know the card works cause i've had it in my mates machine (about 2 weeks old) and XP gets it straight away.

Any ideas other than upgrading my motherboard which i don't think i wanna do yet?

ahhhh feck. Seemed to go ok , flashed the BIOS fine - all looked good, found the various devices, started loading XP... then it reboots. Balls. Ahhhhhh well. Been wanting to rebuild it for a while. Atleast it's not stuffed the motherboard and maybe when it gets rebuilt it'll pick the card up! Time to salvage as many of my files as possible... :dunce:
