This is well good and very cheap! You download the software for free and pay about £80 for 4 timecoded vinyls. If you want more there after its £15 for one. The good bit is that you can use your own soundcard something other programs like Final and Traktor Scratch dont allow so it could work out as a much cheaper alternative!

The software and response on it are spot on too - i havent had any problems whatsoever. Theres an effects section on there too which does the job.

Im not sure what you mean by souncard drivers!? They normally come with the souncard you are using. The only thing you should have downloaded is the Quad software.

When you downloaded the software it should have the instructions with it. Its probably going to explain better than i ever will as theres diagrams etc on how to set it up.

I take it you havent got the timecode vinyls?

If you havent go to preferences and select the destination folder where you keep all of your tracks, also make sure demo mode is ticked.

Once your done go out of preferences and load a track into one of the channels and press the play button.

You should then have sound coming out your speakers.

    That link never worked btw.

Probally a stupiod question but can you connect your mixer up with that or do you use the software as the mixer?

Soon I'll be investing into Rane Serato Scratch Live. It's high quality software that (according to my friend who's used it for at least 4 years now) is updated every now and then to include new features.

I've had both serato & torq - torq connect has a lot of good features and is cheaper but is not as stable as serato

It seems like Serato is pretty much the standard now

did he start using it before it was out? it wasnt released until 2004

SSL is the way forward

and yes, it is updated not 'every now and then' but 'all the time' - the staff at Serato are second to none and not only provide regular updates, but instant help on anything you might be stuck on/have problems with (the forum users are mostly very helpful as well)

I hear loads of horror stories about the other DVS's including:

paying for upgrades (wtf? you didnt get it right in the first place so now we have to pay for you to fix it?) *torq

no after sales support (company's blaming users for setting up wrong to be the cause of faults - instead of just being cool and talking you through it or rma the faulty unit) *virtual dj

software / hardware conflicts (can do it all on paper but in the real world need more power than a space station to run) *mixvibes / traktor3

the negatives list is massive, so i wont go on.

the list of djs using SSL is huge, most recently i noticed D. Ramirez using it at wmc on a youtube video - along with a padkontrol (its midi now)

skratchworx currently has a story on the front page about a plugin someone has made so you can play samples inside ableton off the control signal from SSL

the only flaw i have with it is the setup when you get to a venue, but you're going to get that with any of the laptop based systems - until a standard is decided and we can just turn up and plug in to a pre-installed system

i hear it more and more that clubs are installing an ssl box/ttm57/mp4 as standard over in america - however we'll catch on in 6 years or so, like everything else

    :)

lol I just remember him using it at a party which felt about that long ago.

Have you got the vinyls then Dan?

Was thinking about getting Quad Scratch but you are the first person Ive known who has it so can you recommend it?

What soundcard are you using with it? Does it crash much? Does it actually feel like you are using records?

I had Serato off a mate for about 6 months and it was awesome, just a bit worried that Quad is going to be rubbish in comparison

    cheers

Aye ive got the vinyls - there nice in that they are thick and not wobbly and thin like some vinyl you get. I cant compare it to other similar software as Quadscratch is the only one ive used. The effects are good enough....just! The sound quality is surprisingly good - I actually compared a wav playing through the software to an actual vinyl and the software was noticeably better (but i havent changed my cartridges in years!)

I have a Xone 3d which has a built in souncard so i didnt have to worry about that. All the controls are midi assignable so reverting back to the mouse is kept to a minimum. The only thing that i dislike is that navigating through tracks is a bit of a pain but there is a search bar so entering a tracks name will help you find what your after quicker! But thats nothing serious at all.

Its never crashed on me once and it does feel like your using proper vinyl (which is the most important thing!) - everything responds how it should, needle jumps, spinbacks, stopping and starting the decks.

For me it was a wise move - i already had a souncard (make sure your soundcard has 2 ins & outs!) and a controller in my mixer but if you dont have those already its going to cost you a lot more than the £90 i paid to get the set up going!

    Overall id definately recommend it.

    Nice one, cheers

I've already got a soundcard with 4 Inputs and 4 Ouputs so reckon Im going to go for this as my lass would go absolutely off it if i spend £400 on Serato etc

Hahaha thats probably a good idea then, just hope it lives up to your requirements after ive bigged it up!

I forgot to mention as well, the bloke that created it goes on the sites forums all the time & answers any questions and listens to users' feedback so i can only see it getting better with future updates.

By the way, if anyone is going to purchase Quad then make sure you change your payment currency to Euros as it makes it £8 cheaper than if you pay in £'s
