    Fao - The Message Board

    Just so you all know.

The current promisealways.com website will shut it's doors at midnight on xmas eve.

We are redesigning the message board and the rest of the site for 2003. The new site will open for trade after midnight on new years eve.

We will be totally deleting all the databases that store the details about users and posts so you may wish to do the following.

Save your avatars and sig files to your own pc.

Get any information you want from your PMs (private messages).

Make sure you get any data you want before midnight on xmas eve as that will be your last chance.

See you on the other side. :D

One other thing, please note that you will need to re-register for the message board if you wish to be able to post.

It wont be a fresh start IMHO, the same people will sign up, the same crack will be said.. all that will happen is Promise will lose about 600 members...

The site wont look as busy, when u look at say gurn.net you think wow what a lot of people - what a succesful site... I think the more people the promise messageboard has the better it reflects on the club - visitors see almost a thousand members and think it must be a succesfull club.

Visitors (& members) can search through our existing events databse and read previous reviews about the night, find out what the promise regulars banters like, find out about the club and dj's, etc.

By deleting everything you lose all of this... Also who wants to sign up again - its a hassle and a waste of time, they lose their post counts (sad but true most folks in a geeky way like their high post counts), they lose their pm's, their posts, their avatars, etc.

I can see absoloutly no benefit to deleting everything... but would be interestesd as to robs thinking :D

No.. The board was replaced last year for technology reasons...

The board was running on a cgi/perl free thingy - similar to a guestbook - it was a nightmare to use and belonged somewhere between 1980 and 1990... There were no members, no pm's, nothing infact check it out here:

when gurn went down i didn't bother to sign up again. you just find somewhere else to go....

i'm with joe i think this is a bad idea.

it's taken a long time to build this site/board into what it is. throwing it all away would be a shame. and just coz there is some randomness doesn't take away from the fact that there are a LOT of useful posts on this board.
