    Fans want Al for boss

Alan Shearer has emerged as the fans' No. 1 choice to take over from Sir Bobby Robson as Newcastle United manager.

The Magpies striker was voted Player of the Year in The Mag's end-of-season poll, and was also named as the man the Toon Army wanted to succeed Robson when he eventually steps down.

Also in the poll, Olivier Bernard was voted Most Improved and Young Player of the Year, while Laurent Robert's first goal against Tottenham Hotspur was voted Goal of the Season.

The poll also found a change in the mood of the Toon Army, with 97% LESS happy than 12 months earlier following a season which saw Newcastle finish fifth in the Premiership and miss out on a return to the Champions League.

    I reckon he'd be a bit of a gamble!

I'm not too sure. I wouldn't defo want him, but I don't want him to just walk away from the club. I think he would do a good job though!

More importantly - does Al want to be our manager?

Doesn't he keep hinting that he'd rather go into media work?

And even if he did want to manage us, he'd be a gamble.

I think possibly he could go upstairs and do some work for newcastle United when he retires but I think nowadays you need first hand management experience to be a sucessful Premiership coach. I know he's doing his Uefa coaching badge and stuff but its nothing without experience in management IMO. One day he will be a decent top-flight manager whether it be at Newcastle or not. Maybe he's a bit too arrogant/miserable to be a manager;)
He'll probably do alot more work as a pundit before doing any of these as its easy money.

    Thats my opinion.

True, but I'm especially concerned about taking a gamble on Al because he's rated so highly.. If he did a crap job I'm sorry to say my opinion of him would go down. :(

He wouldn't be my first choice but he's definitely worth considering. There's not many people better placed to know player strengths and what system to play to get the best out of the team.

t's obvious that would happen, but like has been said many times before, you have to understand the area, and history of Newcastle United to manage it well!! It's an unique club to manage because of it's rich culture, and how the fans feel about it!! Who is better placed to know these thing's than Alan Shearer?:)

Personally, I don't think "Big Al" would be a good manager, could be wrong tho.

As for his taking over after Bobby, I'm all for it! :D
